New song- feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

I recorded a new song, the first I've done in awhile. I would really like to hear feedback, especially about the song itself. Any advice on improving the recording would be appreciated, too. Thanks very much! The song is called "A Fall"

I kinda like the sound of the two instruments.

Theres definitely some tuning issues here...
Between the slide guitar and the ascending/descending vocal lines, there's some collisions that are rather dissonant. :(

I also heard some background noises and what sounds like you hit the microphone... should probably do another take, or try to edit out those 'thuds'.

Hi Mike, yeah, what Queue says. It is kind of hard to judge the songs alone, because you need just a bit more production values, or else they really distract. The hitting the microphone sound is the worst, you just gotta do the vocals again. Dont try to edit stuff like that out, if you hear it once, just back up and do it again.

I think the sound is actually breathing into the mic. Also, if you plan to double your voice, you really have to nail the intonation.

Yeah, I found those 'thuds' rather distracting as well. I think the vocals get a lot better toward the end of the song, but they kind of suffer in the beginning (not that I can sing on tune either). The acoustic sounds cool, but a little thin for my taste and the slide could use a little 'rounder' of a sound if you know what I mean. I like the song though and it could be really cool if you try again and nail the recording.

I never would have guessed you listened to Modest Mouse or GBV. ;) But since I now do, those thuds were probably intentional so you can retain your indie rock credibility, right?. :cool: :D


BTW you should check out my roomates bands stuff at audio confusion . If you go to the sounds page, their song clips are indie1 and indie2. They have pretty similar influences.
