I hope it's not in poor taste to post another song so soon after having just posted one. But I wrote and recorded this in two long days and I really want to know what people think of it. It's a bit of a departure for me.

Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

Nice. Vocals are a bit boomy, need to be more focused.

Seems to have quite a bit of low end at points, consider rolling some of it off. Or not, its kinds hard to tell but the whole production seems to have quite a bit of "LOW".:D

Around 3:10, the chords seem a little messed up.

Definitely a nice song and a good listen.

I really liked it. I agree with DavidK that there seems to be a lot of "low" on the track. Other than that everything else sounded good to me.

Good song, I also agree theres a lot of excess boom in the bass and bottom end. I would skip a lot of the extra solos during the verses and let the keyboard shine through more.
I would also use other tones on the Strat than the out of phase/in between position tone constantly. A variation of the tones at least for the solos would sound better to me anyway.

So it's unanimous, too much low end. I kept the initial synth patch going throughout the song and with my 5" monitors, it is a little difficult to gage the full impact. I'm going to go back and rethink how I want the synth tracks to work out.

I'll check out the vox tracks, I didn't notice any boominess before. And I'll look at what I can do for the guit parts.

This is the feedback I was hoping to get. Thanks so much.

Enjoyed it. I’m not hearing any problem with the synth’s low end being too strong. It’s the lower mids of the vocal that are too hot, and just some of the time, especially in the beginning phrase. Around 4:35 the lead guitar is getting in the way of the vocal.

XLR - thanks for the listen. I made changes to the mix and reposted yesterday. After the intro, I brought down the low synth and added a strings-type pad. I eq'd the vocals a little differently per DavidK's suggestion on boominess. Sounds like I should look at that again. I left the guitar parts alone because I'm pretty happy with them.... for now.

Cheers,

I guess I must have heard the latest mix with the bass rolled off because it sounds pretty good overall - as in not too much bass. I'll let you fiddle with the low mids as suggested by XLR to see what you can do there. Overall I found the mix to be pretty good - the instruments and vocals were easy to make out and nothing was jumping out at me. Good arrangement, I also liked the story in the song....

I gotta say...mix aside..I LOVE this song...I listened to it a lot last night and I think your vox are awesome.

The lead tone fits perfectly for the feel of the song...and man do you feel...this is a kick ass and a hauntingly beautiful love song...kudos to you Chili!!!

At 2:31 you kick those vox in with a grittier emotion..that added to the lyrical content...gives me freakin chills...

Mrs Chili must be beside herself with all this musical luvin...what better gift could a music man give his woman, than that of song...;)...or vice versa.

I love the beat too.

Maybe bring the bass up just a db..? I like the bass and I want to hear it just a tad more...you have all these soulful sounds going round and interweaving with each other in the way you've arranged it.

A musical journey on the Irish Pirate's sea....:D

Ido - Thanks so much. After taking in the advice earlier, I like this version a whole lot better. I'm still debating what to do with the guitar parts per Anfotan's comments.

True - Wow, absolutely the best comment ever given anywhere. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Chills, huh??? You know, for a person who calls himself Chili, that's really saying somethiing. :D Yes, Mrs Chili is lovin it. And I surprised her this morning with another song I worked out last night and recorded. Now she wants a CD.... Cool....

Thanks again, True, I really appreciate the nice words. :D

Nice. Has an Moody Blues-ish feel. Nice vocals. My first impression when the drums came in was that the snare should have only played on the "4" (as opposed to the "2" and "4") for maybe just the first 4 or 8 bars.

I like your voice when you force it a bit, it sounds good. There are a few lines that you could have sang more like that, in my opinion.

Great melody, Chil.

Listened again, this time on speakers, and there's no problem with lower mids on the vocal that I had thought I heard with the cans.

During the chorus, a little more pluck and little less sustain in the bass/synth low end would be good IMO

Hey Rami - Hmm, not a bad idea. At first I thought it might lose some of the drive, but instead, it might help to build the song. I'm going to give it a try. (That's what really nice about ezdrummer - easy to edit). Thanks for the encouragement on the vocals. I feel like I really can't sing, but definitely getting better at it over the last year since started recording in earnest.

XLR - Hey, thanks for the double-check. I feel my vocals are still a little weak and waivering in spots. That might be the boominess you hear. I did a million takes and still can't quite get it right. I feel like it's a compromise I'll just have to live with.

Thanks everyone.

?? In my last post I said I didn't hear boominess in the vocal.

BTW, I'm not hearing any weakness in the vocal performance. It's done very well.

Sorry for the confusion. I was thinking about what you said when listening with headphones. I was just thinking that you heard something and it might have been caused by vocal performance rather than the mix. I think headphones and speakers will reveal different details, so you're observation with the headphones is still valid. imho. :o

Thanks man.

Listening through JBL LSR4328's. Very nicely done, Chili. The vocals remind me a bit of Harry Chapin. Nice mix. No boominess on the current mix. Good balance throughout. Some interesting panning effects. I bet it is quite nice through headphones.
