I started recording this band way back in 06 and I've been going through some of the old mixes and a lot of them were pretty bad. This one was saveable so I got back into it. Give it a listen if you please. This is with one day of re-mixing. I'll have a comparison up in a bit so you can see where it came from. Any advice or critique would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Here's the song: "Rob".

Here's the comparison: "Old Rob".

Jeez that song is awful.

The new mix has a sort of a mid-scooped/mastered sound to it. I think it's lacking some low end beef. It's all kick and nothing else really down there. The drums have way too much verb for my taste.

The old mixhas better bottom end, but it's kind of muddy.

Overall the new mix is better, but just needs better bass presence. Everythings sounds like it was tracked pretty good.

The song seemed OK. The drums really did stick out, especially the kick. I assume that's a drum machine of some sort? I'd highly recommend findind a tone for that which matches the rest of your sound.

Take a bunch of highs off the mix - especially the drums - and it's listenable. As it is it is a bit piercing. Are there samples on the drums or is this DFH or something? Not a bad tune in general, I think it fits the genre pretty good. The rest of the mix is okay for me, with the panned guitars...vocals are nicely discernable. I think this tune can be saved....:D

Didn't hear the first mix. This one has really distracting drums. Way too much verb IMO. The guitar sound is very mellow in contrast. The vocals are good and sound Nirvana-esque. Get some bottom in there and soften the top of those drums. Can you tune the snare? ;)

Whats with the stereo delay in the kick? I hate it. The guitars sound too 'modeled' for me. I can see that it was well tracked, but the mix is not doing any justice to the song.
