Got a couple of songs in the works, but this one is getting close to being done. Haven't put anything up in quite a long while, so.....

I know vocals are a little pitchy and bass might be boomy. I recently changed my listening environment a little so I'm learning my studio all over again. Any help would be appreciated.

SONG HERE

...and if you like lyrics:

35 Miles Til Vegas

Cut from the scene of SE Philly
Glad to be out alive
Got no love from Atlantic city
I’m heading west for a ride

Got lost somewhere out in the desert
A girl of love rescued me
You see some things when you’re gone forever
Too much to believe

35 miles til Vegas
I can see the lights
Nothing else can save us
I’m gonna get there to night
35 miles til Vegas
Chase the American dream
Wake up realizing
Nothing’s as it seems

Short on a rope and a couple feet shy
I ain’t hangin here
Set my sights far beyond the sky
The desert air makes it clear

Street creds lackin for a gambling fool
Who bet against loaded dice
Make my riches or make me poor
Never think about it twice

Thanks all!!! :)

Nice tune Chil, great chorus, very catchy.

I'd bring the guitars down a bit and bring the drums up (or just bring down the guitars to make more room for the drums)

I love the intro, very Keith Moon. I assume the drums were programmed ? Not to say the drums are bad, overall they work. but Its a very real sounding type drum song (I've heard Greg do a great Keith Moon) Just a thought.

The song is very good, well written, really liked it.

That song is sounding quite nice Dave, what guitars are you playing on the tune? Only thing I might add is some keyboards, synthe or organ maybe-just a suggestion.
I'm hoping to post a new song soon myself-its probably been years since I've posted, just need to find time to clean up the rhythm tracks....

Hey tony, great to see you again, lookin forward to hearing your tune. The two hard panned guitar tracks are the Xaviere Tele with the middle position selected, the middle/lead solo guit is my Ibanez semi hollow with the bridge pickup. Both guitars go through a digitech modeler; various settings, no presets. Thanks for the kind words.

Hey PDP, Thanks much!! Took your advice and lowered all the tracks except the drums. Maybe too much?? (Same link above) I use ezdrummer. I've had people offer to do real drums for me, but I'm always lazy about getting them tracks to work with. You're right, though, this song would go much better with real drums. Maybe I'll bug JimmyS, he's always willing. Thanks for listening.

Edit: Looks like I'm having problems with Soundclick so lets's try to upload it here.

Listened to both, and enjoyed the song, man! I actually prefer the original one. In the 2nd one, the guitars lose a lot of what make's em' stand out. I guess I prefer the sound of the guitars to the sound of the drums. It might be different if the drums were acoustic. I love the groove of the verses, dude. Great sound there.

Thanks for sharing!

I liked this Chili - good melody and arrangement. I always enjoy your vocals too, plenty of character in them. I can't really hear hear anything much in the way of bass guitar though which seems to leave the mix over dominated in the guitars and with nothing at the low end except kick and the tail end of said guitars. For me, if you addressed this, the tune would be finished.

Hey thanks, Rob and Jason. Some good comments. I'll work on the mix a little more tonight. Like I said in the op, I changed the listening environment in my studio, so not quite sure how the low end is doing.

I'm also getting some real drums for this song. It'll probably be a few days or a week or two before posting a mix.

Nice tune !!! Yea I can relate to changing the acoustics in the control room. Screws up everything your use to. :)

Loved the guitar tone...nice and fat...sweet spread too. Vox seemed just a bit dry lying on top of the Guitars of Doom.lol
I think I was hearing some clipping throughout...might have just been some twang on the bass, but 1:53 is a pretty good example of it.
The mix seems pretty balanced...can't say that the bottom end got away from you at all unless the clipping event(s) is from the kick.

Overall, great tracking. Can't wait to hear it with live drums.

Thanks BM and Teysha. Pretty sure there is no clipping, must be the bass poppin a bit in some spots. I've been getting away from using a lot of reverb on my vox, so this one has a delay and some small amount of reverb on the delay effect.

Glad to hear the low end is still there. Hard to judge sometimes. I haven't had the chance to listen to this tune anywhere else but my room. To me it sounds great, but we all know how that goes.

Thanks again!!

listened to both, i think i preferred the first one, funny someone mentioning Keith Moon as the whole tune has a Who flavour, i could even see townsend doing the backing "35 miles"

good rocker, of course live drums would improve it....but no nits on the mix otherwise

nice one :)
