Hello... Got three new mp3s up at www.mp3.com/cococasa

Mackie 1604 vlz pro and 2x Blackface ADATs

Drums miced with 57s on snare, toms and kick, Oktava MC012s as overheads.

Bass-amp (shitty old Yamaha piece o' crap) miced with RodeNT1

Kick, Snare and Bass compressed with dbx266XL (which I really won't recommend anyone to buy...)

Then the guitars were recorded. Sm57 on a Peavey Bandit... 2x2 tracks. both of us played one guitar with less top and less distortion, and one each with more top and distortion.. all track slightly compressed (<3dB)

Vocals are recorded with a MC012, compressed with the dbx.. Compressing vocals is where this unit "excells"...

During mixdown (to a Sony MDS-JB920) some minor eq was added. Reverb and Delay added with a Roland GP-100 guitar preamp... Limited the snare, compressed the vocals a bit more, and compressed the stereosignal moderately...

Then I threw it into Sound Forge and ruined it completely ;-)

Note: the mp3 compression on these completely sux.. I can guarantee that they're not highest quality 128s from Sound Forge.

I'll remix this as soon as I figure out how to match my gear into my too-small-room, and I'll be more patient with the editing in SF.... The other guys rushed me with this one...

I listened to Treadmill 1:2. First of all, good song and fine, restrained yet intense performance. I don't know if it's the dbx but the vocal came out just great.

It gets a little busy during the climactic verses; when the drums come up they kind of bulldoze over everything else and there's no space left for the vocal.

I was unhappy with the mp3 conversion with my mixing software, n-track. After researching about a dozen other possibilities I just tried doing it with MusicMatch and it came out much clearer.

I don't know Mesh,maybe it's my cheap-@ss pc cans,but
all I heard was industrial sounds with clicks and pops!
It sounded like a sledgehammer banging against a metal pipe with a real sloooow Moog synth sample!
Was that it? or is sumthin' wrong with my cans?
I'll listen later on my daughters pc!

It must be my sound card! I don't hear any drums or vocals just a real slooooowww metal bangin against steel!
Sorry Mesh,I'll check it out on a better pc with real spkrs!

Ok I found out the prob. I can't listen to n-e 1's MP.3 if
i have anutha' window open to "Voice Chat".

Yeaaahhhh Bay-be!!! The vocals were cool and the drums sounded excellent. Liked the git riffs.
I'm impressed!

Nice textures on the instruments in "Treadmill". Of all the tunes at that page
(32.5MB: did I get them all?)
the flavor that you seem to be going for with all of these tunes (maybe a descriptive analogy would be U2 does GooGoo Dolls?) came together best in Treadmill. Although I loved the intro to LV-426, and parts of all of the rest.

I'm listening to treadmill now...

It sounds cool. The vocals do sound very nice. For some reason I'm reminded of Muse, (a bit slower), maybe it's the lead guitar sound, nice!

It manages to be laid back and yet upbeat at the same time and it works well.

Sorry there's no mixing advice, but I'm pretty clueless in those stakes, just knows what I likes!

Really cool stuff, Meshuggah!! I listened to all songs & really dig your style. Reminds me a little of Afghan Whigs and even old Dinosaur Jr. You guys really have your stuff together. With my PC I could only listen on lo-fi, so I had to buy your CD. Great vocals, guitars, drums, bass, everything! This has inspired me to run into my little studio room and get to work on a Sunday.

Hi again.. Thank you all for listening. We've got lots of good feedback on these songs, though I gotta say that there's a lot to improve on this recording. I've had a little lazy period this week. But I hope I can figure out how to put all my gear up in my room and make a second mix of this.

LI Slim
The buldozing is probably most due to my sloppy Sound Forgeing... It'll probably sound a bit better when I get time to do it more thoroughly. These mp3s wasn't encoded ny SF, which encodes like a charm.

MrQ..
Nice to see you didn't give up.. Thx for the kind words :-)

Doc
Yeah.. Treadmill is an ooold song which Mange (singer, guitar, main songwriter) have been altering from time to time. This time it came out really well in it's new, more rythmic shape. When we find a better place to record at, we'll probably re-record most of the other songs aswell.

Thx, I'm really pleased with the sound of the vocals. The Oktavas are lovely mics. Mange is a lovely singer.

F e e l e r
Yeah.. Mange (again) really is a natural when it comes to songwriting. You actually bought the CD? From mp3.com? How does that work? Glad I (we) inspired you.

I listened to Treadmill

Hey buddy...lay off the compresssion, A LOT!!! ;)

Cool song though.

Yes, the only bad thing i can say is the overall compression. i assume this is what you meant with ruining it in soundforge.

what i liked? your drums sound pretty big. The kick drum sounds like there is nothing in it, and i like that. also your voice sounds full, i like the song a lot, when i find time im going to download more songs.

Well I'm very confused. I downloaded a bunch of Meshuggah at the suggestion of both you and clayton....and I remember the first mp3 you posted very clearly.

I guess I'm not confused, I'm simply a bit suprised. This material is more along the lines of U2. That's not bad, just suprising..as I said :)

This is pretty good stuff. Some of the guitar sounds are very nice considering they're coming out of a Peavy. The vocals fit the music but the singer goes off key a lot. I really like the natural drum sound!

All in all very cool...but I'm still wondering what that first song you posted was...certainly not this same band?

Sounds cool. Real nice groove. The singer's off key vocals sound great! I love off key vocals, as anyone who's listened to my mp3's can attest to.

I don't wnat to sound like I'm repeating everyone else, but the over compression is obvious, especially on the clean guitar, and in some spots the bass drum.

Great song (tread mill).

Listening to next...

Ego: overall sound better...everything. Not sure about the drum sound....snare sounds funny, but the cymbals sound great.

Hey thats the guitar riff from Sunday Bloody Sunday!!!!

Mekastus: fuzz bass? I'm way into that! What did you use? snare sounds funny again definitely the compression. Guitars sound great!
Cool song.

hello

Really nice with all the feedback.

sonusman
Yeah.. I explained to you earlier.. Rushed situation. I just listened to the original mix... Sounds sooo much better. I can't say I had my magnifying-glass, but there seemed to be no signs of compression on it... Well well.. I'm glad I still have it... :-)

kristian
Thx man. I'll make sure to upload the songs myself as soon as I have them back in my comp in their original state. AND they'll be mp3s from Sound Forge this time.

S2K
Well.. I hate sticking to ONE kind of music.. It's also a pleasure working with this songwriter.. he's a natural.
Hey! That Peavey is one of the best amps I've ever heard. IMO he's just flirting with being off key. Neither him or I likes the 'Madonna'-sound...
The first song I posted was a song called Hit the Bottom, which can be found on www.mp3.com/meshworks

rats
Hey thats the guitar riff from Sunday Bloody Sunday!!!!
It is?
Nice to hear you like it. :-) The fuzz-bass is a POD I hooked up to aux2. In the verses I just cranked up the return (no faders left..) so it mixed with the clean sound.

As I said. There'll soon be new versions up. Probably not as hot, but a lot better sounding.

Thx for listening and your feedback.

Yeah that is the guitar riff from bloody sunday.

Ah! The first song I heard from you was Bad Dream. One of the best songs to have ever been posted here IMHO.

You seem to be involved in a lot of stuff...I can respect that. I can't stick to one style myself!

Slackmaster 2000

Great TUNE first off! and great job on mixing and recording...however ALOT of compression was used?!
I really like how the song was arranged..it flows.

PEACE

Treadmill

Hey, Just checked out Treadmill. Great tune. It's one of those that has a riff that you could repeat forever at the end and let the guitar player have a ball during a live set. I also checked out your band info... I can't believe there's someone else out there into Venom. I've dug those guys since Welcome to Hell. I even bought the video/cd comp "The Second Coming", but I can't play the video because it's in PAL format and not VHS (I'm in the States). Anyway, Nice job on the track. Tom.

I'm not really listening on a good enough system to comment on the recording. The song's cool though.(Treadmill). It built up nicely from around 3:00 on to the end.

Mekastus is totally cool
