Suck 'em and see!
I said I would post up the first recording I done once I added the Delta 410 to my 1010 system so here it is

Blue Sunshine HiFi

Blue Sunshine DOWNLOAD

Everything was recorded on an Allen & Heath Saber 24/16 through the 1010 (bass & Drums first). On mixdown the drums, bass and vocals came back through the 1010 to the desk and the keys and guitars and backing vox came through the 410. Needless to say I'm REALLY pleased with the results but I'm always open to constructive criticism. :)

If you need more outs than ins I'd definately recomend the Delta 410. I'll be adding another one soon.

The MP3 sounds kinda strange

In what way? A quality loss? I usualy encode at 256 but I'm running outa space at NWR I didn't think 160 was much of a drop from the actual wav when I listened back.

Normally, a 160 sounds pretty decent -

This sounds like either (A) a bad encoder (too fast, old Fraunhoffer or new LAME encoding)

OR

(B) an MP3 that was either encoded repeatedly or made from a 22.050kHz wav.

I can hear some good sound in there - It just seems like it's hiding behind MP3 artifacts... Do you have a different encoder? Or, if it's like the old MP3.com thing - You could upload the best 128k in the world to them and they'd find a way to screw it up for the streaming version... No idea what they did over there... Does "NowhereRadio" resample or otherwise mess with the files in any way?

I usualy use wavelab 4.0 to convert my files to mp3 but for some reason I used soundfofge 6.0 this time around. Can't say I noticed much of a loss but there's always some thanks to the compression. I'll bash it up in wavelab and A/B them.

I guess my ears have a bit of room for growing still. Thanks

Alec.

my first thought was a Duran Duran kinda song...even though I am not really familiar with their stuff. I found that the song kinda sounded like an intro and never really kicked in. Lacked not having something in the low end to cement things down. I expected a much "fuller sound" to come in (with the lack of bass), but it didn't.
The tom toms banging away the quarter notes got a little old after awhile.

Get some production stuff going on....."highs" and "lows" musically, ease the "click track" tom tom part, and I think it will have a much better impact to the listener.

The mix was ok...to a degree, except for the part that there was nothing holding things down, except for the tom tom.

Updated the file. Re-encoded using wavelab 4.0

I can't hear any mp3 artifacts but there is an audible click or scratch around the 0:56 mark that I cant pin down.

Mixmkr: I know what you mean with the "no cement" remark. I recorded 3 tracks for this band and this one was the least impressive at the time but the track has grown on me where the other two have fallen away now.

The band are The Aerials and the last song of theirs I aired around here "HIGH FIVE" got a good deal of praise. I suppose this one is more of an album filler.

Since when are we allowed to link to NoWhere like this?
I thought it was verbotten?

anyways...
I am listening to your latest first man...
sound really loud to me....all the way through....
Going for that wall of sound thing may not be the way to go man....

vox are really well performed as are the harmomny vox and the music but man o man...it's loud....

drum timing gets really weird at 3:12...like it's out of time....out of groove...I dunno...

backwards?

is that what it is?
I am gonna load this into CEP...
I'll be back...

since you pay your $5 a month like the other deeplinkers ;)

Saves a lot of daft clicking for everyone.

Ok, here it is...The Aerials are a 5 piece, drums, bass, keys, guitar & vox, no click tracks. Drums n bass tracked first, everything else laid over the top. The band had the artistic licence here, I obliged by tracking and mixing. They're happy, I'm wondering if I could have done better...by the comments it seems so. Always open to learning, this is good IMHO, thanks

damn man....
you limited the shit out of this....

needs a low cut.....at least....

perhaps you could lower the levels pre-mix and re-mix....

give some room for the vox to be on top....not to compete with the music...

I like the tune man....very cool,
Joe

Really sounds pretty decent here. You might have overhyped the highs a bit on the vocal...or you need a de-esser...

...and possibly a de-EFFER, lol. That first "LiFFFFFFFFFe" is kinda grating.

Man, I wish this had some screaming guitars instead of alien spaceships, lol...but the mix is pretty good.

lmao...I didn't read your post until after I posted. I did notice the weird timing thing on the 2nd listen. Different systems accentuate different things, which is why we're all here, I guess. :D

I stand by my post though, lmao...it sounds pretty good HERE. :D

LemonTree,

Most of the technical issues have been covered here but, I wanted to let you know that I checked out the song and really liked it!:)

You really put a great composition together and the mix was pretty balanced beyond the distortion artifacts and slight lack of bottom end which in the grand scheme is no biggie as long as the original master is clean.

I like the back-wards echo/verb effect near the end of the track too! Very trippy!

Cheers! :)

Thanks Ghost and thanks everyone who took a listen. This was the bands album filler but it just grew on me and I think it's the best of the 3 track session. The "click track" toms remind me a lot od the white stripes seven nation army...only with more bottom end ;)

thanks guys

Alec

er...no I didn't, there's a very mild warm buss compression on the whole mix. Track flat and stay there

Alec,

I love the beat, wavy sounds and the vocs----- everything is cool!!! I am tappin my foot and dancing in my seat----I can see being in a group of freaks like myself dancin in a sweaty heap to this

I have nothing to complain about, I also love the guitar. This is more of the style I enjoy---- totally different and pleasantly odd..
Omg--- I love the end!!!!

I agree, to a point. Though it never kicks in, I think it works like that. It's like a sustained perch on a cliff -- like we're teetering on the edge the whole time. I could hear this at a rave. THis is a very cool, very well-done song.

I do fully agree, though, that it needs something "low" -- bring that bass down.

The vocals are my favorite. I can't sing well, I know it, and most people here are better at mixing and playing (not that there's anything wrong with that). But your (?) singing is kick-ass. I really got into the melody and the tone of the voice. I usually don't want to, but I'm going to listen to that again.

Thanks.

Does "NowhereRadio" resample or otherwise mess with the files in any way?

Not the hi-fi or the download, only the lo-fi (for obvious reasons).

I love how the singer sings in the beginning, it's so damn catchy. As for the recording, sounds great to me.
