I just don't think Roland gear is all that quality. I own several pieces old and new, and the knobs and sliders and stuff are fragile, and for the most part it alot of it fits better into the "cool toy" category, than the "quality gear" category.

I've owned close to two dozen pieces of Roland gear, going back to the Juno 60's and the 505 drum machines to as current as the XP30, XV5050 and V-Drums.
I've never had a piece fail me - and some of this gear saw hundreds of gigs, including numerous fairs and festivals with questionable power supplies and more rain, dust, beer, blood and watermelon juice (a "sledge-o-matic" comedy rip-off) than any gear should be subjected to. With the exception of a battery dying on a D50 (after something like 15 years) every piece turned on and worked fine - every time.

Ever hear of the little problem plaguing most Tritons/Trinity's? Korg in their infinite wisdom decided all back panel jacks would only be held in place by the solder contacts making the connections to the synths motherboard. The result has been that alot of these board's rear connectors are failing do to the tugging of the cords attached to those connectors.
That sounds more toy-like to me than anything from Roland. My XP30 was built rock solid and part of the case is still made out of metal. The same cannot be said about boards I have owned over the years.
