New rhythmic Adventure

Doc, Cool sounding stuff, sounds like you may have heard some 'Gentle Giant' somewhere along the way. Well, everyone's covered just about everything else about the tune I just wanted to weigh in on this one. I still have your "I Found Out" in my library. That one's a keeper too.

Hey doc got your files...I've listened to some of your other stuff in the past, this has got a whole diffrent vibe from anything I've heard from you. I'm not going to try and make an ass of myself and tell you I understand it cause I'm not trying too, I just go with the flow of it and let it take me where ever it may. This was a most relaxing piece for me.. unlike "Cat Brains" which is my fav of your's by the way and that song at the strangest times just pops up in my head (no shit) what did you do to me?:D can I sue you? But I enjoyed this as I have your other stuff, great work!

p.s..Ginger Baker might could hang with you..is he dead yet?

hmm. i dont believe you that it was in 13. sometimes i can manage to count, but other times its like free verse poetry,there is no rythm. i dont believe you.

And I also have to ask:
If it has no melody, no harmony and no rythm, is it music? Or is it just sound?
Either way it was interesting.

First off- yes, it is in 13. I shit you not.
And kristian: I told you not to try to count!
But if you must:
There were 3 equal-length sections that consisted of 6 bars of 13/4 each, then that weird ending which was arhythmic.
I'd print out the score and show you but I haven't got any notation software that works. Tried Finale and can't for the life of me figure out how to make it print anything resembling music notation. Way too many complex menus that affect inconsequential aspects of the notation and no simple templates with "standard" music notation. I'm not trying to lauch a space shuttle, just print out a page of music.
Second, I do respect whatever definition of music that you care to apply. It's your mind and your ears, so why not?
But I think this piece definitely has a melody, a bit of harmony and a very hard-to-grasp rhythm. The free-verse feeling was intentional despite the constraints of the time signature.
And thanks for taking the time to check it out.
 
How about this?

Ever play a computer game w/ annoying audio loops that you get really sick of after a while? I'll bet this type of creative, arrhythmic sound would be a perfect "loop-hider" to add to a game's soundtrack. Since it doesn't have a distinct or familiar structure, it would avoid sounding redundant. Perhaps you've developed somthing here that has a perfect niche just waiting to be exploited.
Just a thought.

The technique of which you speak- hiding a looping structure behind a hard to follow pattern is one that was used here.
And your suggestion is brilliant. Never thought of that avenue for distribution. I guess it's because I've hated those bleepy sounds available from a cheap FM synth ever since my Commodore 64 bleeped its way into my heart. Nowadays, I guess the sound on these games has gotten a lot better leading to more choices for soundtracks. Thanks.
