Hello all. I have read this board and done drastic searching to prepare to order some equipment for a home recording studio/live gigging gear. I have discovered that when reading posts and not actually asking questions, you have to settle for a lot of opinion. Therefore, I decided to join here and learn as much as I can from you gurus.

Here is that oh so popular question:Based on my budget and investment, Will my stuff work..and how well...I intend to record vocals and mainly acoustic instruments

Unless you guys have some different input, I intend to order the following (please remember that this is within my budget, I cfan't afford a 3000.00 mic no matter how good it is)

1 Audio-technica at2020 mic
1 Shure SM57 mic
1 focusrite saffire 6 usb audio interface

the focusrite comes with "Ableton Live Lite 7, Novation's Bass Station synthesizer, and over a gigabyte of samples. In addition to all this, you get the Focusrite FX Suite, which includes a compressor, gate, reverb, and EQ to upgrade your standard AU/VST effects."

how does this sound? potential problems? suggestions?

Yes, it'll work. You've got to start somewhere - don't forget cables, mic stand(s), pop filter and you are going to need headphones and monitors. I would suggest downloading Reaper to use as your DAW, only $60 to register it.

Fact is, in my opinion, Gekko zzed is right.

I agree with mjbphotos, but just to add my opinion, in place of the AT2020 i'd suggest having a look at the sE2000 (£79), the sE X1 (£119), and the MXL V67G (£125). Second hand, they're even cheaper. But this is just my opinion as i'm not personally a fan of the AT2020.
