Got a pair of Elite Ts, model 2078-T. One for fourths tunings, one for "crafty" tuning in fifths. They were on sale in April and the price is staying down somewhat, I think, until they shut down USA production of this model and move it to Korean production later this year.

It's a wonderful guitar with a very consistent tone all the way up the fretboard and good intonation in fourths tuning. The crafty tuning requires bigger fifth and sixth strings and the setup still needs some fixing to work properly on those strings. Still, they are wonderfully sounding and playing guitars for the price. Ovations are weird in one way.... since they have that non-resonant roundback, the tone you hear while playing isn't as full as the tone out front, since it projects mainly out in front, and not so much from the back and sides of the bowl.

I also like recording both the direct sound from the pickup and the miked sound and mixing them together. I'm not that crazy about the pickup sound on its own, but it adds good reinforcement of the miked tone, making it sound more solid on the low end and more direct with less room tone.

Cheers,

Otto

I've got a German made Ovation Pinnacle and micing & blending it with the pick up delivers very good results indeed - with minimum effort. I aim the condenser mic at the just behind the 12th fret and plug in the pick-up and away I go. No guess work, just real good'n full acoustic tone.
