btw Walter, back on topic, I listened to the first two tunes on your page. i've said this a bunch of times, but I just love the emotion I can hear in your songs. Just hearing this I know this means a lot to you. That's something I believe is missing in many songs I hear on the radio nowadays. Cheers, I've liked everything I've heard from you

It would be nice to see Walter visit the occasional thread by someone else. His music and life experience would give a great perspective on other people's music. I've never seen him IN a nother person's thread, let alone listening and commenting. Nothing wrong with it, it would just be cool to see what he thinks of somoe other's people's music. Agreed. We're a co-op of sorts really. He's made comments in some of my threads and they're always appreciated.

I know some who post here are on dialup and that makes it tough for them to listen though.

Guilty-I appologize. I do listen to much music here (am now on high speed internet) but refrain from comenting, because often the reason for the post was for technical feedback-is the bass to deep, the drums balanced, etc.. . I don't listen to much music, and never the radio, so I feel I have little to nothing to offer in this arena, becasue most are trying to achive some sort of genere sound that I know nothing about. Most everything I hear sounds good to me. I comment on tim's stuff often, because it is so simple sounding. I do not mean simple in technque(it is huge there), but simple to listen to. The layers on most recordings confuse me. When I listen to a song posted here, and I feel the drums are way to up front, most comment they need to be more up front. I am pretty ignorant on most music, having had no formal training. I kind of learned in my own bubble.

All I have really listened to is the blues, chuck berry era rock and roll, and the sinatra like sounds. Plus, I feel like a tadpole in this recording thing, and don't feel experienced enough to offer much feedback on the technical end. I read much here, and learn from it. The folks here are very proficient at that end, as well as musically. I will comment more on how it feels to me. that is about all I can do. I am just a simple player. I think most people do multitrack, and isolation. I do no isolation, overdubs, very little eq, no compression, etc. Also I am not a songwriter per say. I feel lost in that arena as well. I just make them up, sing them once, and they are done. The total amount of thought and time I put into a song is just as long as the song is. All I do is just basically try to get a even mix of a live recording. I have always felt isolated in the music world because although I know many musicians, we come at it from opposite ends. I am just rambling on. What I mean to say is this place is a great place, and I am sorry for not being more involved. Walter

Not my place to tell you what or what not to do Walter, but FWIW it's valuable to hear as many perspectives as possible about basic practical details like, "snare sounds loud to me", or, "kind of bright on my speakers", or, "tune the guitar, man". Also good I think just to say "liked it" when applicable, and bump a good tune back to the top.

To me, one of the great things about this place is that it's a cross-stylistic, non-academic melting pot of feelings and opinions.

Very true. I wasn't calling Walter out on anything. He has the right to do what he wants here. He has never said a negative thing anywhere in his threads, so he certainly isn't doing any harm to this place in any way. But since, like Tim says, this place is cross-stylistic, my point was that it would be great to read his take on things that people post just because his perspective would be so much different than many of us.
I have to say that when I notice that someone only comes by here to post their tunes or the tunes they engineered or produced for someone else, I stop listening and commenting. Not so much for "revenge" or anything like that. But because I believe in give and take.
There was a thread a while back (I think Tim might have even started it) about pet peeves in the forum. One of mine was people who only drop in to post their tunes and never even listen to anyone else's. So maybe I just notice something like that more because it's something that bothers me more than it might bother someone else.
having said that, if that's the worst thing that goes on here, this place is pretty damn civil if you ask me.
