lets see......i make an play native american flute....currently have 4 cd's which were produced in pro studios. observing that the last 2 were pretty much done on the computer which was tucked away in the corner......figured i could try making my next at the farm(yeah i own a farm)........so i just purchased a brand new computer(athlon xp @1.8, 200meg hd(actually 2 HD'S)512ddram, and the sound board is integrated into the MB.
I purchased an fostex FD-8 some years ago.......it is an 8 input analog mixer which feeds and onboard 5.0 gig hard drive.it has a serial port to access a second hard drive(like maybe one of the drives in my computer?)
mic is sm 81 and sm 57
now for my question.........can i hook the analog mixer to the integrated sound board just to get a taste of what i can do?
or should i get a good PCI sound board (say the Audiophile 2496)........or do i need a special board which gives me a/d d/a or is this what the sound board does.......
or...........just forget the fostex fd-8 and go purchase a usb workstation controler like the tascam usb 428 or the event ez bus.
my music is ever so simple......just me and my native american flutes on mic.........with occaisional guitar or keyboard backround.
Rarely have they ever used more than 8 tracks in the pro studio...they used a bout four for mic's- one for guitar.....one for keys.
so should i stick with the fd-8 and serial it to the music hard drive in the computer? if i do that do i still need to pick up the sound board?........is the sound board the same as an interface?
USB sure sounds simpler.........but i weary of spending money on things not used........although i have recored a few songs of note on the fd-8 and had them added to my disc at the studio.........
this old flutemaker realy appreaciates any an all help.........check out my web site if you care to see what it is that i do at
