we don't need rest!!
I thought I'd do a pic documentary, like others have done here, as I always enjoyed and learned from reading and looking at others.

First off, I got this OC 703 for a STEAL! It is only 1", but the 4x8 sheets were $8.96 each. I got 12 sheets. I also bought a bunch of 1"x4"x8' for the framing (I just got 20 of them) and the total bill for all this is at <$150 for what you see (dogs excluded!).

I am going to make some corner bass traps, and a bunch of wall absorbers.

What I am going to do with several of the wall absorbers, is make them look like speaker cabinets. Off of Ebay, I bought a bunch of amp logos...Marshall, Fender, Vox etc... and I am going to get the respective grill cloth and make 'em look like speakers... so to speak. Just something to hang on the wall in the studio, rather than just fabric. But I will do some "normal" ones too with just plain fabric.

Hopefully with a couple days off, I can get a lot done.

Anyrate, here is pic one... the 703 and 1x4 framing stuff I got today. More to come.

Here's the display in Sonar using Ethan's response test....pre treament.

I'll put up the waveform again after treatment.

This was of course in the mix position with an Electrovoice 635a omni, probably around 85-95dB on average, measured with a RatShack meter and played thru some JBL 4311 3 way speakers.

Ethan, if you're browsing thru this thread, I imagine playback volume isn't that much a concern...or is it? It isn't like the mic responds like our ears with the Fletcher/Munson curve...right? But would the bass response tend to be different in the same room at [significantly] different volumes? I didn't catch any mention of that on your site. Anyrate, I played back at a volume I thought I'd probably mix at.

Ethan....A couple other thoughts/comments. The above kinda looks like your partner's home studio (in your video on the web page), and it will be nice to even that response out in my studio as well.

Ethan, in your video, you mentioned stuffing the ceiling joists with fluffy insulation and probably wouldn't need ceiling treatment.
My studio has those acoustic tiles, but I have about 18" of insulation on top of them in my attic/crawl space. (helps with the heat/ac costs too). I presume that I don't need to treat the ceiling as well... right?
I'll be putting in stuff very similar to your partner's setup (and probably more) and have laminated hardwood floors as well. 12 x17 room.... about the same too.

Bass trap frames (in the corners). Ready for 4" of 703 and some covering. Wanted to just get an idea before commiting.

The pic over the console gonna go too. ;-0~ probably a 4x4 absorber there also. The bass trap frames are 7'10"" tall x 2ft. If works out, may just leave them free standing, or put some "feet" on them.

Very cool! I was looking into treating my room and 703 was recommended to me straight across the board. They said 4 inches tho for bass traps, but let me know how it works for you!

Thanks

stay tuned to this thread. I'll definately be giving opinions....scientific, emotional, or whatever...:D

mixmkr, you mentioned that you might leave them free standing. That's what I did with mine. I built each pair specifically for the corner they were going in and they are just held in by compression. This works out good for my situation since one is partially blocking the breaker panel.:D

starting to assemble bass absorber.... grill cloth, framing 703, etc...

Here are some wall aborbers with 3" of 703 that I made to kinda look like speaker cabs. I realize not authentic repros, the logos are not really sized, but I liked the idea.

So far all the 703 is doing a major improvement. I was skeptical at first, but its' been WELL worth it.
