New mobo sometimes boots up automatically to BIOs

I have just upgraded my mobo to an ASUS P4PE with 2.4 Gig P4 CPU and 512 RAM using win 92SE o/s. But sometimes, for no apparent reason, when switching the machine on, it boots straight to the BIOS and configures the CPU speed to manual. Anyone cast any light as to why it might do that?

I've run into that a few years ago with ASUS boards, the solution was to change it from 'jumper free' mode, to jumpered.

It's detailed in the manual, set 'jen 1' to pins 1 and 2 and configure the dip switches accordingly.
