I'm looking for a new mid-tier mixer with the best pre's I can afford. I've had my eye on the Yamaha MG24 but can't find a lot or reviews on this product. Anyone have any working experience with this product?

Other units I'm looking at are;

Allen & Heath MixWizard 3
Mackie 1604 VLZ

BTW, I've got an older Mackie already...very happy with the pre's but I've got a little wear and tear issue working on a couple of the channels.

i wanted to ask about that mg24 too. but i figure that even though the yamaha pres are good, i'm sure people would say to get the allen and heath...i wonder how do the yamaha pres compare to the mackie 1604 since both are about the same price new

You've discovered my "bottom line". All of these units are at the same pricing.

I have tried the Yamaha MG12/4 against the Mackie VLZ1604. Both had quiet pre's to my ears. The Yamaha pre's had a little more noise as you cranked the gain up, so it depends on how much gain you need with your mics.

personally i've never had to go past the 12 o'clock position
