New Mapex drums or better cymbals...?

OK...I admit it. I've got G.A.S. :D

The drums I've got now (given to me) are a cheap 5 piece set of Sunlite (generic, I think) with Aquariun heads, genera dry on one of my snares, 1 decent cymbal, cheap ride, crash and HH's.

The drums don't sound bad but I've never had my own set to compare to. So I was checking out a set of Mapex...http://drums-percussion.musiciansfr...Fusionese-Drum-Set-with-Free-8-Tom?sku=490304

and add cymbals as I can.

Or get the cymbals now and my own set later.

Any one tried Mapex stuff?

I use Mapex and have for years. They sound good. I don't care for them ergonomically though as they have a single tom mount instead of two like Pearl. I like that better. Honestly, as long as your shells are not trash, all you really need is a good set of heads and to tune them properly. If I were you, I would spend my money on cymbals and hardware....and heads.....and a drum dial! Now being that this place is what it is, I am sure that someone will pop in and tell you that you need to go out and get the M pro series or better yet, Mapex sucks and get (insert high dollar brand here) instead. But in all seriousness, I have heard some pretty crappy drums sound very good with proper tuning and heads. Enjoy
 
It's much easier to hear cheap cymbals than cheap drums. If your shells are still in round and the edges are decent, they should tune up nicely with decent heads, so I say go for the bronze.
 
I play Mapex Pro M's. Love em. Very powerful. Their "lower" series seem pretty nice too. I banged around on those birch Mapex kits - they sound pretty good. Very comparable - if not better - than other more popular brands in the same price range.

But...if your current drums sound and record well, get the cymbals.
