new mac user! install osX or 9?

hello, thanks for checking my message.
i will be getting my new powerbook next week and am not sure whether to run osX or os9 as i don't know if there are sufficient programs, virtual instruments and plugins available yet on the osX platform.
If anyone could advise me whether its worth running osX now that would be great as it would save me a lot of trouble of buygin and installing loads of programs (if they exist!) and finding that there are essential things i cannot use.
any help is much appreciated.

I only know a friend of mine is running a Digidesign MBox on her G4 and 10 totally screwed things up. She's on 9.something, don't know which one. You'd be best off going to the web site of the manufacturer of whatever audio product you intend to use and check any documentation they have on compatibility notes. And if you know yet, tell us what recording gizmo you're planning on using with your laptop -- ppl may have specific experiences meaningful to your situation.
