Hello,
I'm moving from a Roland VS-1680 setup to a PC-based DAW. I've been recording demos and stuff for a couple years on Cubase, and I really like it, so I'd like to stick with that software.
I'm going to be recording a few projects in the next year, all of which will require at least 8 simultaneous inputs and preamps(10 would be a lot better). I need to use firewire since I've got a mini-PC without a spare PCI card. Here are the two options I've been considering:
M-Audio Firewire 18/14 (coming out this month) plus the M-Audio Octane 8 preamp (coming next month I believe) - This will give me 10 reportedly great preamps with a bunch more inputs available for use with external preamps.
or
Mackie Onyx mixer + firewire card - Gives me 8 reportedly great preamps plus a bunch more inputs as well as a really nice mixer (I don't really need it, but hey).
They're both about $1200, which is about what I'll have to spend once my VS-1680 and other things are sold. What do you guys think? Anything else I should consider?
In case you need to know here's my PC specs:
2.6 GHz P4 (800 MHz) / 1 GB PC400 dual-channer DDR / 120 GB SATA HDD...
Thanks!
