I just got a brand new American Fender JBass Deluxe, and I've never had active pickups before, but here's a question. I'm recording, and I have to turn the treble control all the way down for the buzzing to go away. I understand that it may drive a cap(?), so there will be some buzzing....?...but damn, not THIS much!

The buzzing starts when I am touching the strings. Kind of the opposite of my guitar, where any buzzing goes away when I touch the strings or bridge. Weird, huh. Should I take it back to have them look at it, or is this much buzz inherent in active bass pickups (the noisless fender jazz pickups).

This is a brand new bass and I would hope it's not the bass. What do you think?

other info: I am not running whole lot of equip, but I am running it into a Furman Voltage Regulator off a 15a grounded outlet. I will do more experimentation in the meanwhile to see if I can narrow it down.

Also, the buzzing goes away when I am facing, say east and west, but it comes back when i am facing north and south. what causes that to happen?

Could be a ground issue? Have you checked inside to make sure it's properly grounded? Congrats on the new Bass. Some day I'll get there. (Mexican J Bass)

Sounds like a typical single coil pickup hum - like my strat has. If you move around it goes away or lessens. The battery probably intensifies the effect.

thats the thing, i thought the fender jazz pickups were specifically "noisless" (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Jazz Bass pickups) as opposed to the older ones.
