So ive been running on a presonus firepod for about 2 years now and i love it. the pre's are pretty good (even though i usually bypass them with others) and its a strong functioning machine. the only problem is that theres no real room for expansion. at one point i did buy another firepod to link the two together, but had nothing but problems with audio dropouts and the 2 machines always had a rough time linking together. so after tons of back and forth emails with presonus support (even though they were super helpful) i just decided to take it back and put my money into mic pre's. that was all fine and dandy for awhile but now im to the point where 8 ins just isnt cutting it anymore and the biggest downfall of the firepod is no ADAT optical in/out for expansion. so heres the question. im looking for a new interface without going pro tools (nothing against pro tools, im just in love with cubase) heres the interfaces in looking at:

1. presonus firestudio
2. focusrite SAFFIRE PRO 26 I/O
3. motu 828 or the 8pre

anybody have any feedback or experience with these machines?
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'm not referring to any RME unit in particular. They're all good units. Let's face it, they just make good stuff.

Personally, I have the RME Fireface 800. It has worked great for me since I've had it.

I use a MOTU 828MKII in my studio daily. I just got in a Saffire pro and a Firestudio for testing. They're really new and not much is out there from sources I trust. One thing I saw really quick is that the Presonus says it can be bus powered. Makes me question it especially withall those pres. But I havent even unpacked them.

But... I use an RME Fireface800 at work nearly every day and this unit smokes the above units. I can tell you this without hesitation. Only problem is its quite a bit more $$ than the others. But I can tell you it works great with Cubase4 and Nuendo, which is how I use it nearly every day. Very good converters and decent pres also.

yeah i just did some research on the RME gear. it all looks amazing. but a bit outta my price range for now. and i believe its the focusrite piece that is bus powered, but youre right.....how good could that be?
