hi guys this is another one of my instrumentals thats going on my solo cd, the synth in the beginning of this song was played on a high end roland by my best friend scott smith, all guitars and other instuments were me. im not sure how the mix will sound although it sounds good on cd in my home stereo. this is my marty friedman tribute. please let me know what you think of the song and the mix. i realy like the song alot myself, it was one of those you record at 2:00 am in the morning when you cant keep your eyes open and i know you all know the type lol. the lead tone in this song is my favorite i used j-edit to make it, if you would like this preset and have a j station let me know ill send it for ya. thanks guys and god bless. tim pate http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1751&alid=-1

Am I first? ....... I AM! Cool.

Good drums.....I like all the sounds and they groove. The only thing I noticed is the snare got kinda repititious. I'd like to hear it changed up some.
The guitar is too low in the mix. Since that's your main thing; I think it should be a good bit hotter.

I wasn't sure which song you wanted us to hear. I listened first to Lead me On and then to Ice Blue.

On Lead Me On, I just wanted to say that there is way too much effect on the vocal. Its a nice tune though!

On Ice Blue. The drums are much louder than the bass and guitar, relatively. Although the drums sound great, they are commanding the most attention in the mix due to volume and relative dryness. I'd like to hear some ambience on the snare and toms and would also like the drums turned down.

The bass is so buried that it doesn't really lock with the drums, creating a driving section for the solo guitar. So, one way or the other, the bass and guitar come up and the drums come down.

The other thing is that since the drums are dry and the guitar is effected with echo and verb, the mix leaves me feeling like there is no single "space" that the band is playing together in. Is it dry, or is it a big reverby space? Make it one or another across the board.

You play well and have some good ideas. I think the tracks are good. Its really a mix question at this point.

So, did I hear the right song? :D

man thanks for commenting crawdad, and for the good criticism and the good comments, i did forget to mark down the name of the song lol, this post was for the song guitarmaggedon. but im glad you listened to the other two songs because i just put them up for criticism as well.ill have to get into my backed up files and see if i have the files there before it was mixed down i lost my hardrive but i had most song files burned onto disk. thanks crawdad and i do see what your saying with the dry and the verby sounds, as well as the bass not sitting in there well, and the volume issue ill try and fix it if i have the files that is lol. thanks god bless.

Excellent playing.
I think the guitar tones are good, but too drenched in reverb or other effects. They could be punchier. They could also be louder in the mix. For instance, something really cool is happening with the panned left guitar at about 1:02, but I could barely hear it.
As far as being repititious, I think if you doubled the basic rhythm guitar just in certain parts you could introduce some dynamic variation without interfering with anything else you've got going.

Where abouts do you live in Michigan?

The intro reminded me of Creepshow 2.. Don't know why :D

I'm almost drunk, so bear that in mind... The drums mixing sounds good. The hihats sound like they're suffering from mp3isms a bit. The rhythm guitars really should be left & right, not in the center (of course, that's only the standard nowadays, but usually it's the better way). The drum-parts are weird sounding at places but still in a cool way. Too much soloing for my tastes. I mean, there should be more variation on the rhythm track at least, just to keep it more interesting. The guitar tone is good, but too much delay...

thanks guys

thanks for commenting guys, i hope i have this one backed up on cd im gonna check so i can make some changes in volume.as a guitarist i am still sorta stuck in the early 90s late 80s sounds, in my opinion the guitarist of that era just rocked like no ones business. but its all a matter of preference and opinion when it comes to favorite musicians i suppose. thanks for lending me your ears guys i appreciate it alot and god bless you. tim pate
