I am a new owner of a Tascam 788 and a pair of AKG c1000 mikes. I am having a great difficulty obtaining enough boost to volumn when recording acoustic instruments. The level during recording and at playback is not even up to the halfway point. I have read and reread the manual and can't find help to my problem. I am having to turn the mike volumn knobs just about all the way up in addition to setting the levels within the Tascam. I have standard mike cables - could they be a problem? I've tried boosting the volumn without luck. I know it is a setting somewhere. The previous owner tried it out and had no problem maxing out the volumn and having to pull it down. He can't understand where it might be happening. Any ideas? This is frustrating because I want to do some recording but can't get a quality volumn to work with. Where should I look for adjustments?
The previous owner thought if I was linking line A and B that it could be a problem with volumn so I am running each mike in A and B but not linking them. I also have assigned tracks to each mike.
I don't think the 788 supplies phantom power, and the c1000 requires it, either by an external source or by an internal battery. Here is a link to get some more info on your mic's. Could be the battery or batteries are dying.
