I need new heads. I'm not too picky about sounds, but i don't want a cheap piece of sh!t. Somehting that sounds good and VERY durable. Also state the average price, so I know how much to spend. I play metal/punk, if that helps with deciding drum heads...

Welp, not sure about the metal/punk sound but I picked up a set of Aquarian Performance II (toms) with a Superkick I on batter of the kick and a Regulator (w/hole) on reso. Came to about $110.00 for all of it. Plus they thru in a "free" snare skin.
Hope it helps...................Kel

You know, I really like ambassadors and just changed out from Aquarian Performance II because they were WAAAAAAYYY too dead for recording. I used to like pinstripes too, but the more I record the less I like 2 ply heads. It just seems like a cheap way of getting a controlled sound when you don't know how to tune the kit. They are dead even more when you mic 'em.

Mosty drummers buy them for the deep dark sound they get (and that's fine. what ever floats yer boat.) and for durability. Let's face it, most drummers don't make enough money to change heads often.

Really though, head durability can depend on the sticks you use. Acorn or barrel shaped stick heads will treat drumheads with kid gloves compared to thin, round headed sticks. Hickory sticks will do less damage than oak sticks because they absorb shock better. Tuning heads with lower tension makes them more susceptible to dents, especially with thinner sticks or if a drummer hits hard.

Technique and equipment choices are as important to durability as what heads you use.
