welcome to the bbs mgrowe. i took a listen to your recordings and have a couple of comments which may help.
sweet resistance - timing is pretty sloppy on the guitar parts. sounds like you have some kind of chorus effect going on with the acoustic which is making it sound out of tune in some places. is the acoustic modeled? i heard a bass in there during one of the breaks but can't hear it any where else. this one sounds like it needs arrangement work. there's alot of hum on the recording too. i'm not sure what you're using for the
acoustic guitar part but it sounds very unnatural. if you can, mic a real acoustic. the drums sound pretty machinish. maybe play around with the dynamics of the midi notes to get more of a realistic sound.
alot of the above applies to the rest of the tunes so i'll skip around a bit.
hate the job - playing sounds good but the hi gain tone kills the dynamics you need for a blues tune.
looking back on my old age - pretty cool guitar parts but there are alot of timing issues.
nite on the tiles - drums NEED some changes. the same old drum loop makes this boring. it could be alot more interesting with some changes.
flight of fantasy - when the lead riff comes in, it clashes with the backup guitar alot. the backup guitar and drums establish a good feel but the lead guitar kills it. that snare drag thing needs some alternating. the same old drum beat throughout gets boring after awhile. so far, i like this one best for the feel created with the first guitar and drums.
cathedral fog - sounds like you played guitar over a backing track. the backing track is very low in volume. the guitar does'nt sit well in with backing track. the guitar tone (auto wah?) sounds good for this tune but it's too loud compared to the backing track.
sliding down the house - lead guitar is too loud. rhythm is too low. interesting drum sound but needs variation. drums always need some variation to sound realistic.
i would pick one or two of these tunes that are your favorites and hammer down on working out the arrangements and being able to play the parts with solid timing. i would also try to start simple with just drums, bass, and rhythm guitar and work on establishing a feel for the tune. if you add something like a lead guitar that takes away from the feel of the tune, it does'nt need to be there. for example, flight of fantasy, has a good feel to it but the lead guitar takes it away. maybe some simple lead fills would work better. try to create some variations in the drum parts and dynamics to make things more interesting.
ok, i'm done blowin wind at you. these are just my opinions and you can tell me to go straight to hell if you don't like anything that i've said. i'm just a nobody btw, that has'nt recorded anything decent to this day. i think you're a pretty decent guitar player and you have the potential to work out some solid tunes. you'll find alot of cool people around here to chat with, collab with, and help with all things concerning recording. welcome to homerecording.
