I want to buy a new acoustic guitar for under a $1000. I want to use it for homerecording and performance. What should I get?

I've been playing a Gibson Electro acoustic epiphone. It's a small body guitar with a cutaway. I need to upgrade because the neck goes out often and the action is way to low.

Great name

Hey Hugh, welcome to the boards. You should be able to find a nice acoustic for that much.

Just a few names that you can check into and demo are Martin, Takamine, Laravee, and Taylor. I would try to stay away from the acoustic-electrics if I were you. Just a personal pet peeve against the electronics that are used. The above guitars should offer different tones that you can choose from once you demo them in the store.

I will second the recommendations above. However, If you will be playing live both the Larrivees and Taylors have Fishman blender options that are supposed to be very good. I don't know about the other two makes, but I assume they offer similar packages.

In that price range, Larrivees and Taylors are my favorites. I feel that you can get even a little more for your money with a Larrivee because they are not as well known and do not command quite as high of a price, but Taylors are the most consistantly well built guitars I've played.

Also, when I can I buy used from a reputable dealer. You can save 30%-40% by doing this.

I dunno, I've always liked the used market. Musicians often fall on hard times and can be taken advantage of, I know this from personal experience.

I live in So. Cal and check the local Recycler ads often. Monday a Guild DV52 came up for $600 firm. Was it worth the 3 hour drive to get there? You bet, turns out it was a '96 in virtual new condititon, hsc, and stand thrown in. Best price new? About $1300, then $100 for a case, then shipping. Yes, monday was a good day.

i got a taylor in april with the electric pickups and i can't seem to stop playing it .i think it's an incredable guitar.it's a dread so i've got a little more access to the bottom of the neck.great guitar.
