kaleidoscopic renegade
Greetings-
I've uploaded two new songs at MP3.com. "Chased Through the Woods" and "Invite the Drum Jam". I'd like to know your opinions about the mix, mastering (each song was mastered differently - which is best?)and general structure and performance.
Gratefully,
Jeff

muy impresivo!

Chased Thru The Woods Whoa... now THAT is a hell of a production. Super, super clean trax... plenty of depth... a lot of sounds at each different "sound depth"... ear candy to the max... reminds me of jake-owa's tune "A Speaker" (from this board, a while back)... sounds like (for one of the sounds) you recorded a bottle of water that you shook back & forth :)

Details, details, details! How? What? What was the signal path for EVERYTHING in this tune :D? You've got to have a high-end desk, or some SERIOUSLY good equipment... (and DON'T tell me this was recorded with a broomstick, piece of copper wire, and a JCPenney cassette player! )

For ALL that detail to appear in there, you've got to have good pre's... no question about it. Excellent job.

Invite The Drum Jam uh... :o I'll say this is different than the first :o Hmmm... it's a cool tune, but nowhere even in the LEAGUE of the first one as far as production goes. The hip-hop drum thing sounds cheesy, to me... but the guitar is played very well... Guessing that this was done on a multitracker box like the VS840, or something. The trax just sound "hairy" in comparison to the clean-shaven stuff on the first toon. There's a lack of mids in this mix, as well... A vocal would sit well in the middle space that's there... but as is, it sounds empty of the mids...

The one thing I DID like about the hip hops? The "frog stick" sound (wooden-spinner sounds)...

There's absolutely no comparing them...

It's like major leagues, and jr high school JayVee.

Just MHO ;)

Thanks for sharing la música!

Yeah..........I hate hip-hop drums too.

Chased Through the Woods is pretty cool. Nice percussion, good guitar work. Kinda had a groove that drove me along with it. I kept waiting for it to go somewhere else and I'd like the guitar to come up a bit in the mix. Especially when it all gets going, the lead seems a little lost.

Invite the Drum Jam was very cool, except for the drum sounds, ;)
I really liked the way it came in after the breakdown with the dbled guitars. This one had a bit more change to it but I kept wanting it to go through a few more changes also.

chased through the woods was very cool.. lots of nice sounds. I cranked it through my big speakers, and I like the way it sounded... I agree with Lt. Bob about the lead being low, but I guess it's more about the groove on this one.. I like the drum sounds..

on 'Invite the drum jam", I agree with Chad that it sounds a lot different.. I didnt mind the drum sounds because I think these sounds have their uses.. I thought the first tune was a lot better..

Overall, good stuff.. I enjoyed the listen!

On “Chased Through The Woods” the percussion kind of sounds like a loop. The synthesized sounds at the end are a loop right?

Thanks guys. I recorded the guitar sounds with a Johnson J-Station. Brit Combo amp. I left every track as is in Cool Edit. Dry. Then I ran the mixdown through T-Racks on the Stereo Spread preset. Lowered the compression and raised the limiter settings on that preset. Then put it back into Cool Edit and added a tight room reverb setting. I'm finding that the less I tweak individual tracks (except on vocals) the better the song sounds. Thanks for the compliments! I'll pay you your dough tomorrow :-)

The rhythm guitar was done with my new Les Paul. Doubled with one track on the bridge pickup, the other with neck pickup. Phased with delay. Damn, I love the Paul!!!

I liked it a lot, specially the wild drum beat. Very nice mix, and the guitar sound was great, kinda like a crazy/psychedelic Brian May

Good job!
