a buddy of mine is wanted to grab some new gear. something that is, say, along the line of mackie onyx preamps, and converters that are better than something like the 400f....

he hopes to use at least 4 pre's, and at least 4 line inputs. At least enough outputs to listen to some stuff in 5.1 the old fashion way (no decoders or anything).

i dont know, any ideas? especially on hardware that is a step above what (probably) most of us use around here, becuase i could only tell him about the 400F type arsenol. it's all i know. ha.

get a sytek for the four pre's and the RME firefacefor your conversion.

yeah i was thinking RME, how about ECHO? i just dont know much about em. ha.

yeah i was looking into buying the echo (not the layla though) but i don't know much. You can't go wrong with the RME though.

The Fireface HAS four preamps! Do you suggest they aren't decent enough? If not, why not go with a Multiface (other than the converters in the FF are claimed to be a tad nicer). Seems like an unneeded expense to me.

sorry, i meant to look up exact specs b4 i posted. Your right the 4 pre's would be uneeded. My mistake.

I was really wondering if you'd heard something bad about FF pres. All the word of mouth (well, word of modem, really) has been extremely positive.

no, but for the price range i have heard a lot of great things about the syteks. Also, i have a strange aversion to all onboard pre's, whether on a board or an interface. i dont know why.
