I have ordered an 1884 that is supposed to be shipped on the 15th. I downloaded the user guide and read it. Then I checked online for a suitable forum and discovered that a lot of people have had a lot of problems with this model. What is the 411 on the 1884, and does it have a future?

I think it is a great piece of gear...I had a bank-switching issue when I first installed, but it turned out to be an easy fix(see my thread below) since then it has performed like a champ. I think this type of interface is the future of the whole Tascam company....just as they went to cassette multitracks after 1/4" open reel machines fell out of style. So yeah, I feel good about it...sometimes I read raves about the Mackie unit and wonder if I should have spent the extra dough for the sexier fader feel etc, but the Mackie has no A/D I/O....as an audio interface with software control, the 1884 is tough to beat. I think it is a steal at the price as an all in one solution. The converters sound good, and even though I do use some nice outboard mic pres, the onboard pres are nice and clean and useable. I'm glad I bought it. Tascam tech support was good and tried to help, even though my issue turned out to be a Logic issue.

its a pretty decent interface, my only issue is trying to use it for midi with nuendo. I have latency issues with it. but its pretty clean sounding for the price.

Wow. That's good to hear. It won't be shipped until the 15th and I am very eager to get under way.
