Hey gang...

Been awhile!

I went to The Swannanoa Gathering this past summer in NC, as I did last year, and it was equally inspiring this year, so I decided to write them a little anthem. Just though I'd toss it out for you...

Instrumentation
Drums - loop construct
Peavey Foundation Bass (my trusty 1983)
Martin DXME (twice)
Fender Strat (Mexican)
Roland RD-500 (Rhodes patch)
Korg Triton 61 (strings)
Me - seven backup vocal parts
Larry Kadlub - lead vocals (I tried, and BOY did it suck.)
Recorded and mixed in Adobe Audition 2.0 through an M-Audio Audiophile192 card, a Mackie 1202VLZ, and Waves plugins.

Anyway, it's a gentle little piece, I'm trying to describe the effects the place has to someone who has never been. It's as folk as a smooth jazz guy gets, anyway. Lots more song story at the link...

God Is Here (Swannanoa) (It's the first song on the page, after the self-indulgent artist propaganda)

I couldn't get Arist Launch to open. Maybe others are having the same problem.

Llarion - good to see you back - ArtistLaunch is down - been trying for 45 minutes now....I'll try again later... :D

Great picture of Abby - she's looks cool in that avatar :D

The new link works good.....

Great tune Phil - songwriting and arrangement is top quality. Hard to pick a favorite part cause it's all good. :D Although if I had to pick I would say the keys and bass, followed by the vocal melody. Your collaborator Larry did a great job on the vocals too......Did you record this at the NC gathering?

Great Tune!

No, I recorded all the instrumental parts and my seven vocal backups here; Larry recorded his track at his home in Cleveland and shipped it to me via FTP.

My wife emails me that picture whenever she thinks I need to be snapped out of a mood... :

First items of business - The new avatar is cute as a button. I assume from other posts, that is your daughter?? Like a button, just like I said.

Second, the song is production quality in its production.

I like the use of keyboards to create the mood.

Yep, that's my Abby, she just turned three on 10/29. See more at www.abbytraynor.com. She's a pistol! She can sing Love Shack, her favorite song... (there's video of that)

Thanks about the song. This one is way different than my normal stuff, but it's really important to me for some odd reason. I'd love to get Larry down here to record the vocal; his equipment is less than optimal, which explains the sorta shrillness in his track, I did the best I could with it...

Incidentally, the seminal event at Swannanoa for me was 2 trips ago, meetign and being instructed by world fingerstyle guitar champion Pete Huttlinger. I hired him immediately to play solos on my tunes Abby and Brownstone, many of you may have heard those in the past. Here is a video of Pete doing his unforgettable fingerstyle arrangement of Stevie Wonder's Superstition:

Superstition video

If that's not inspiring, I don't know what is. :)

Great website - looks/sounds like Abby is on her way to becoming an equally excellent musician!

Nicely done - you've got that track sounding nice.....

Crap!!!! Missed this one...sorry man, don't know what happened. :o

Most of the istrumentation is good...mixed well, and flows nicely. Something with the vocals....they sound a bit boxy, or something. The performance seem sok, but they don't seem open and airy, like maybe the tune calls for. I have a terrible time with vocals myself, so I couldn't give any epecifics, but they could maybe use a bit of tweaking. They just seem to have a bit of gurgle on them that makes them seem unnatural. (if that makes any sense. ).

Only real nit I find is the way the vocals come across. Maybe just dry them up some?

Tune as a whole is fun...nice and poppy. The intricacies are good, and it does sound well done.

Nice playing & recording.
I think the genre's not quite right though I'd be hard pressed to put a label on it.

Well, it's folk in composition only; the arrangement is more jazz-influenced pop. When we play it live, it will be two guitars and a bass only... :)
