New DrStawl Tune

Interesting composition. Sort of has that chamber orchestra meets Super Mario Brothers feel. Does the princess' violin get rescued?

I like it. Now get it recorded on some real instruments! Maybe a guitar and midi concerto in the making?

One of those things I find terribly interesting, but don't think I could take a whole album of. Ambitious and quirky. Different is good.

Cool Dr Stawl. What the heck are you playing this on/through? Quite the orchestration... I love the comment about the princess above :D Mix is pretty good - the various parts are blending nicely and it has a good tone.

Thanks,

The usual suspects:

CW 6 controlling a Roland SC-88 recorded via analog ins on the Delta 1010 in SF 6. Light (SW) EQ and Compression applied to the "mix".

Classic drstawl

I haven't been around in a long time - but glad to hear you're still at it. Like the tune -

Reminds me of the game Strider. There was some odd music in that game.

Thanks!
What is the vibe you get, (mood) from this twisted mp3?

I know you were asking supercreep, but I'll answer anyway:

I get two people walking frantically, sometimes running through an old city (that they're not at all familiar with) looking for each other.

The two main melody lines that move from occasionally harmonious to mostly dissonant are of course, the people. When dissonant they're far away and stressed, and when the lines move into "key" together our two lost souls are closer together.

I'm fairly traditional--don't usually go for dissonant and off time stuff; but this one works for me. Kinda cool indeed...

I get a vibe of Wendy Carlos seducing Doogie Howser... ;)

Actually, it sounds great through my V4's. There was a little tonal clashing that didn't work for me around :20ish, I found myself wanting to have one of the compeding melodies fade back a little. The other dissonant things worked for me.

I really like how one sound would fade away and then come back with a similar melodic motif but in a different voice.... The DB seemed to turn into Harp at one point.

Also, definitely not fighting the loudness wars here....

Nice tune, Its kinda Jazzy to me, with the Computer gameish theme.

Its defenitly original, thats for sure.:)

cool sounds:)

Physician, heal thyself.

Just kidding. I like it. Sounds like something I would write. I liked the staggered rhythm that deviated from all the 8th notes toward the end. I would use that expression a little more, but otherwise I understood the changes and the movement.

Cool;)

Very cool. Has a retro gaming vibe to it, as already said, and gets a little scary towards the end. This would work perfectly for an Alfred Hitchcock themed game developed for the Nintendo 64 game system.

Pardon me if I crash the party but to me it sounds as if somebody is randomly banging his head against his midi-keyboard. Sorry Mario, but the song-structure is in another castle! There is no recognizable melody whatsoever, no beginning, no ending...but maybe I have to listen to it two more times to get the whole thing.

*listens two more times*

No. That didn´t do it for me. Probably it´s just not my kind of music. I even struggle to call this music...and that comes from somebody who likes to think of himself as an open-minded experimental-music-lover.
