hi all....my old desktop has just died i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a new one? my old system was just a p4 hyperthreaded but could handle 8 tracks simultaneous recording very well but not much in the way of vst etc....also my band would like to rehearse monitoring through cubase 5 with headphone mixes that include effects and dynamic processing...other than the p4 system thats now goosed this is my current set up.....
behringer xenyx 2222fx
behringer powerplay ha4700
emu 1820m
samson drum mics
shure mics
i've considered amd options that would be cheaper for mobo and processor but the recording space i have is quite small and in summer will get very warm due to all the acoustic treatment ie stud wall and many layers of carpet!! thats led me to thinking of the i3 option that consumes less power and creates less heat......any advice would be greatly appreciated !!! i might add i'm on a budget of around £180 for mobo + processor thanks ....maff

That's a pretty small budget when looking for great performance. I don't really see running temp as a factor, though I am not that knowledgeable in that respect. A dual core AMD performs way better than a P4. Though, it was not adequate for me either, so i eventually went i7. Others will have direct advice I am sure. Best of luck with your upgrade maff!

i know that the bullzozer has received really bad reviews but based on price and benchmark i'm considering the 6 core
amd bulldozer fx 6 £109
and this mobo
asus m5a78lle £54
might as well buy a turkey this x-mas
that gives me more to spend on ram psu, lava lamp and the adat pre i've got my eye on ...
suggestions welcome.... this is a half arse studio and considering my p4(only with 1.5 ram!) almost did everything i needed i'll be happy if i get twice the performance from this set up...i'll be going with at least 8gb ram this time....the question is would i get more performance with an i3 cpu and board for roughly the same money???

did'nt bother with the new build got an old dual xenon workstation from a friend!probo upgrade again at some point tho.........thanks for reply jimmy suprised at the lack of any other advice from this forum tho? forums always cliquey tho no suprise there!

Well, many members at that point (right before the holidays) were more involved in some crazy events that....well, we will leave the details alone.

Thank you for coming back with this reply. Trust me, there are many of us here to help in any way we can. Keep in mind, all of us have other things going on in life, and one post can get lost in a sea of other posts. You were no being neglected by any means. Next time, say something like "pththhhththh!" lol!

Welcome back maff! :D
