im getting a peavey 5150 head with brand new mesa boogie tubes installed in it in the next week or two, and i want to upgrade my cab too.

I have $300 to spend on the cab. What's th best suggested cab to get? or brand?

for anyone who doesnt know about the epavey 5150 it has 100 watts, and it's going to be used to veyr melodic and technical metal. Some acustic parts are used too though.

ps- I was suggested from a kid about a brand i THINK called "avitar" ?? but i tried looking it up and it didnt exist, if anyone could please tell me what i might be thinking, it would be greatly appreciated

Did you try 'Avatar'? You should probably list the impedance as well just so people know what to recommend. What cab are you using at the moment?

AVATAR thats it. thats what i was recomended. thank you.

im using a shitty crate 100 watt solid state half stack. its horrible. Im playing a lotmroe shows at bigger venues now, and need somehting that'll be louder, clearer, and give me a better sound.

other than avatar is there any other good cheap brands for a cab??

thanks

Avatar comes quickly to mind. They always seem to be highly recommended, and affordable.

5150 has a switchable impedance, I do believe.

If I'm not mistaken, that 5150 is actually a 120-watt head, right? With the Avatar cabs, that won't really make a difference unless you get Greenbacks, but I'd keep it in mind.

im nto sure, but im almost 100% sure its 100. i think the 6505 is 120. the only difference being is it has 2 extra tubes in it.

im not 100% sure though. ive only played with the 5150 a bunch of times, never looked in detail about it. i just was told its 100

well after all this, i made my decision, im getting the avatar cab [2x12] in red. the $288 one.

Greta price, love the specs of it, and i like what im hearing,a nd have heard about it from the other kid i was tlaking to last night [hes in the band "turok" you should check them out for any metal kids]

thanks a lot guys. i really appreciate it

Why would you spend a lot of money on a head and then not want to spend over $300 on the cab? That's where all of the sound is going to be coming out, so a decent head with a cheap cab isn't going to do the head justice (though Avatar does give a lot of bang for the buck). Seems kind of like a backward method of obtaining your half stack.

 My thoughts exactly. You really need to invest in good speaker cabs as well as good amp heads. A quality head and a "good enough" cabinet is the same idea as plugging a good mic into a crap pre.

You're never gonne hear the true sound of your 5150 if you skimp on the cab.

While I am not a fan of the "Marshall sound", the 1960 cabs sound great with the 5150 head.....
