just got vf80 without internal cd r.what's the best way to hook it up to my pc to burn onto cd?any help would be most appreciated!

I have a VF 160 but I think the answer is the same on both machines: you can't unless you record the SPDIF output to your computer.

depends what you want to do....do you want to mix the audio files (individual tracks) on the PC?

for this...I'm assuming you want to mix on the VF80 and transfer a stereo wav file to the PC.

if you dont have the cdrw then you can only connect via the SPDIF output, which means you have to have a SPDIF input on your PC soundcard. This basically is transferring what you hear from the vf80.

Good thing about it is that it is all digital so you dont have to go thru the AD/DA routine.

Or

You can simply get a lead that converts your 2 x 1/4" (L & R) output from the vf80 into a 1 x 1/8" mini stereo plug LINE INPUT on your soundcard.

Mix on the vf80 while recording on the PC. You will need some sort of software to record the audio on the PC.

pc files

Hi , hey i think if you record through the fostex into your sound card, you get the same result as if you didnt use the fostex at all, and recorded straight into the pc , most mixing software does this (n track) you would loose your eq settings and all the benifits you get from your fostex

i dont know your machine, but ill bet the files created from it, would work better to mix on pc, just like using the mr8, except you would have more control over the sound of the files then i do...until i use my mixer and all

curious to see how it works out for you,, let us know

I think recording through your soundcards analogue inputs would probably produce poor quality results (but it is an option).

I think you need to tell us what you're trying to do:
1. Do you want to transfer your multitrack-tracks, or
2. just the stereo mix down.

SPDIF transfer would work for 2. It could theoretically work for 1, but would take for ever to transfer 24 tracks.

BTW I'ver just started using my PC as a digital recorder since I got an M-Audio Transit external 'sound card'. It connects by USB and has analogue and SPDIF in/out. 24 bit.
It also allows me to output Reason tracks to the VF.

if you want to mix your vf80 "tracks" on the pc, the only way to go is to buy the internal CDRW and burn off the tracks as wav files, then transfer on cd to computer.

to bad

man isnt tht a rip, but i think i understand why, but not much of a limitation for such a nice machine, ive herd really nice results ......
