Folks,

I've got a new one. Lemme know if you like it and gimme some input on the mix.

I'm aware of the freakin' swirly hiss at the beginning... It's my bass... damn. I hate that. I dunno what to do on that, cuz it's just the guitar and bass at the beginning... not enough shyte going on to mask...

Okay, well anyway, it's called "Procrastination" and you can find it here: http://mp3.com/smartapple

Thanks for your help ~Teddie

I like the tones. I like the tune. Marilyn likes 'em too.
Sounds mixed right to me.

Teddie,
I really like that guitar sound. Your vocal fit like a glove! Sweet tune.

I can dig it! With a shovel. You certainly deserve the airplay you've apparently been getting!

Teddie,

Man that's hot!!

Guitar at the start sounded like it's half speed, goes great with the theme.

Great tune.

Are those still canned drums? Nice programing.

If you don't make money off music this good, there's no hope for the rest of us. Let us know when you get your Rolls!

Hey Teddie...it's been a while since I posted anything, sorry.

Again, I liked the tune, and your voice seems to just adapt to anything you write. I love that. You already mentioned the hiss of your bass, so no point in bringing it up (although I guess I just did). Don't take this the wrong way, but you really should find a drummer. You program extremely well and the tone is fine, that's not the problem. I just think you should get a drummer & bass player and start playing this stuff. You'd have the place goin' nuts man. Also, you've done a great job of learning to record yourself and I think you'd really get a lot out of recording drums.

One more thing about the bass...when I played around with a Bass Driver at Guitar Center, I noticed that the thing wouldn't stop buzzing and hissing...very annoying. That is what kept me from buying one. Maybe you should try just using your Pod or a regular direct box. Just a thought.

Sounds great man, and congratulations on all the press and plays and shit. You deserve it.

Can't you write and record a song that isn't good????...wassamatter, you tryin' show off or something?.....I've been meaning to look up the word "procrastination"...I'll do that one of these days...gibs:D

Well, I'm a sucker for good blues-rock, I would say this one fits that catagory, I like what you had going on with the guitar, in the back, you know that string bending thing(for lack of a better term), set a good mood for the song in my opinion. You harmonize really well, I wish the harmony would have been just a little louder, especially on the last word of the phrase, time, I think it was. But that could just be me. The voice really sounded good though, real good. Another good one. Ditto, for me about you deserving the good things that seem to be coming your way. I don't think it's luck or an accident........Ray J

Hey Teddie,

The Bear here again... nice track - well-crafted tune - I like the guitar work (yours?) - impressive....

The downsides (some little things): :)
- Drums in the intro - hi-hat/snare sounded stiff - was much better after you got further into the tune...

- Slight clipping distortion on the guitar part (left-side) during the intro - not a big deal but was noticeable...

- WHERE'S THA BASS? This tune sounds like it should be thumping you in the chest with the bass & kick drum - you had a wholly appropriate chugging guitar part, but it needs a bass line to match.... was there a bass line actually in there? The sound of the kick I think could have been a little deeper, but that may be a subjective opinion on my part. The kick/bass relationship is really critical - there was a real informative article in Recording magazine on this very subject a couple of years back that you may want to get your hands on....

Could be flawless with a few enhancements - but nice job dude!!

Drstawl, Garger, and Kelly: Thanks for listening and for the encouraging words!

GT: Thanks man... Yeah, those are still my "can o drums" haha.

CMiller: Thanks for listening. I actually took the bass guitar out of the intro on the remix to try and take care of the hiss... it helped... Actually, on the .Wav file, you can't hear the hiss. When I encode it to mp3, even though I've stripped the bass guit out of the intro, it still intensifies the hiss a little bit, but not as much as before... Regarding getting a "band" together to play out again or the get "that sound"; I'm starting to miss it... This may happen one day, but I'd never have the time at the moment. Hey, you're right about the SansAmp box being noisy... I'd like to try an actual BASS POD. That's on my "new toy" wish list. Thanks again, and thanks for the congrats.

gibs: hehe, thanks man! Hey, "procrastination" means... um... well, I'll tell ya later.

RayJ: thanks for listening. I did do some remixing to this song and I took into account what you said about the level of the harmoney on the chorus vocals. I upped it, but then I brought it back down... I couldn't find a sweet spot... although in this remix, it might be a little higher. Thanks for your help and kind words.

bvaleria, thanks! Yah, the guitar work is mine. When you say stiff, regarding the drums, do you mean "timing" stiff, or "sound" stiff. Sorry for the dumb question. Man, you're right about the clipping on the left side... somethings funky with my left channel lately... I'm going to have to check that out. It's clippy, noisy... my left channel is. I hope I can figure out what's going on with that cuz it's making me sorta crazy. Ahh. The bass. I upped the bass a little bit on the remix... I hope you can hear it now. Let me know, please. I wonder if Recording Magazine has a website with an article archive on it. I'd be interested to see that article you mentioned. Thanks for your help.

Okay, so I've remixed the tune a good deal. If you folks could give me feedback on the new mix, that would be most excellent.

It's here: http://mp3.com/smartapple ("Procrastination").

Thanks again!

Teddie....
You've got another winner here. Great song!
As far as any changes go, I'd be interested to hear the vocals with just a bit of plate-reverb, and the drums with just a bit more low end to give that bass drum more "thump".
The guitar work was terrific, as usual. Great sound!!
Now I'm REALLY inspired to get off my ass and start the 2nd album!

This songs rocks! Great voice. Kinda curious what equipment was used..especially the distorted rythm guitar..

Hey Teddie...

Thumbs-up dude - very nice... can't find anything that jumped out at me that I would change.

One suggestion - your drums during the chorus parts are crying out for some LA-style heavy tom fills....

Loved the guitar tone!!

Buck, hey bro! Yeah, the main vox are pretty dry, I did add a little delay to the chorus vox... I'm going to try and setup a good kick drum sample for my unit. I've been trying to analyze the kick drums in some of the bands I like. I think I've gotten so use to my current kick drum that I don't really pay attention to what it's sounding like anymore... but recently I did a comparison to some of the bands I like. My kick drum seems to have a quick, kinda high frequency thingy, clicky. Like the thump is caught somewhere between two stiffy clicky sounding high frequency strike, thump, quicky clicky minimal decay... I sound stupid. I like the "thump" that Rage Against the Machine's kick drum has in "Killing in the Name". I'll try to program on of my unit's samples.

brokenwindow, thanks for listening and for the kind words. On the guits, I used my Gibson SG through a Pod on preset 6 for the distorted guits... and number 3 for the cleaner guits. On the clean guits I played a single track but recorded it in stereo... for the distorted guits I played the same rhthym twice and panned them left and right.

bvaleria, thanks for listening to the new mix... I've actually found some nitpicky stuff that I want to change again... Nothing so extreme that I'd need to get feedback on cuz they're tiny little nitpicky things that I can hear cuz I'm specifically looking for them, so I gotta fix it or I'll go nuts. Regarding the toms... I'm "tom-shy" for sure. I have a hard time making those things sound natural... but I used them on other songs like "Valley of the DogZ"... and... um, I can't think of any others... but I'm sure I used them. I wrote another song last night... I'm going to try and use some toms in some places (if it fits).

Thanks again guys!
