Hi everyone.

I have been recording a band that has taken all summer to finally get it together, but they really did a great job on this song so maybe it will be worth the wait.

I don't know what category this song fits into. I would call it pop/punk 'ish maybe, although that is not thier style overall. This band has many more great songs that I hope to post soon.

Please give comments on the mix and on the song if you wish.

Thanks

Pretty cool. Nice performance and production. To be critical the snare is a bit dull sounding and I woud want a little more low end. I wasn't thrilled with the energy of the lead vocals but overall you did a pretty good job.

Cool tune and mix.I agree about the snare. It's a little dull.I think the whole drum mix is a little dark.

Statesboro?College band?

ok mix comments first-

its already been mentioned but the snare needs some tweaking. It sounds really muffled like its mumified in duct tape. The toms are kind of buried in the parts where the drummer is beating on the toms. I would like to hear them up a little bit louder but maybe thats just me. Im having trouble defining what hes playing on them though. The kick sounds good from what i can tell on these speakers, clear and clicky. Im suprised that no one mentioned this one but it seems to me that the high-hats and the bell of the ride are louder/more prominent than the crash cymbals, thats unatural sounding to me.
The guitars are clear as well as the bass. Sounds like you did a great job here, vocals are also nice.
A few tweaks on the drums and it sounds like you should be on your way.

Performance-sounds pretty tight. For some reason when i hear this, i keep thinking of that old life of Agony song "weeds" . I don't really care for the vocals too much. I was hoping the guitar was going to break out a little more instead of just doing the little octave chord lead. Im not really into this style but its not too bad for the cookie cutter rock deal.

I like it. I agree with the posts about the drums sounding dull. And I'll agree with everyone about the tight performance. I don't like the guitar tone much...How did you mic the drums?

TexRoadkill - Did you mean low end in the mix or low end on the snare? I'll see what I can do to brighten it up a little.

Kramer - Yes this is a Statesboro college band. They are one of the more popular ones around here. Wireneck and I are also in bands here in the 'boro.

Wireneck - Hmmm. . . I really don't have a problem with the hats and bell being louder. STP does this alot. Its the reason why so many people mic hi-hats I guess? I didn't mic them seperately they just come out a lot in the mix. I guess I could compress the overheads to even it all out. I normally do that, but I was just trying something different. Also his hats and ride were really pretty bright and that might make them cut a little more.

Fattmusiek - Yeah the cool thing about the guitar sound is that it is different. It kind of has that Offspring kind of guitar sound IMO. The two guitar amps used were a Mesa Dual Rectifier and a Peavey Ultra Plus. Mic'ed em both with an EV635a

Drums were mic'ed with 2 SP B-1's as overheads, one over floor tom and one over the snare about 2 feet above drummers shoulders, Rat Shack 33-3032's on 3 rack toms, AtPro25 on floor tom, and Peavey 520i on kick.

Thanks for the reply's and keep them coming,
Beez

i can see where your coming from about the high hats and ride being louder. I think the snare is probably the biggest problem in the mix. If you straighten it out, i think the drums will sound alot better.
Keep them coming man

Good performances all around - vocally, guitars, drums, all of it. Good guitar sounds I thought.

That hard panning of the lead guit in the intro that switched from one side to the other was kind of weird on headphones. If it were me, I would pan it quite as hard and I'd leave it on one side or the other.

The guitar has a small tendancy to cover the vox here and there.

So-so songwriting-wise.

My thoughts...
