My band's first offering. Its kinda funky... kinda not.

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6816712

It was recorded in an unfinished untreated basement on a budget of nil with:

echo layla 24/96
nady 8 channel preamp
several shure beta's
a studio projects c1
and a few akg c1000s's

There are still a few tracks yet to record, like the keys, horns, and percussion tracks. There are a couple guitar and bass and vocal dubs left to be done as well. But, it is in a listenable state right now.

Bass sits okay, cymbals and vocals could trim some highs off. The cymbals get a little annoying sometimes...The balance on the mix is good so far...just needs some eq'ing....:)

By cymbals do you mean the hihats or crashes/rides? Any ideas what frequencies I could cut?

I feel I way over compressed the snare but without it it sounds out of control. Any ideas?

Also I'd like to get the vocals to have a more up front sound. Any ideas?

Also, I'd like to give the guitar a bit more balls, any ideas?

You've got a pretty good recording here so far. It's got a nice lo to mid-fi live-type sound.

Multi-tracking the guitars and vocals would be a good way to fill out the sound and bring them forward more.

The whole mix sounds a little quiet to me, but most of the instruments sound good relative to each other. Though the bongos could probably stand to be brought out a little. (I never thought I'd say that about a funk song by a band named after characters from Mystery Men!)

Your guitar tone sounds really good for the solo/lead parts.

Yeah, I agree that the whole thing is a bit treble-heavy. Cool tune though. And I love the band name - one of the greatest character names from a movie ever!

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I'm gonna go back and try to cut back some more treble. Yea, the bongos are low for now... 'cus it was a rough bongo track to see what we wanted. Some of the rythms ain't the best they could be. Also for some reason the player isn't happy with mp3's at 48000khz so it was playing the song much slower than it should have been... That was fixed by reuploading one at 441.... If you guys want to give it another looksie I'd appreciate that.

So the mix you have up now is the same as the original, but with a different sample rate, then?

I'm not hearing the difference. I think the playback speed issues probably only affected a few computers.

ah, well... it was affecting my 'puter. So, I changed it... Hopefully this coming weekend I'll be recording some horns and keys for the song. Maybe fix some guitar parts.
