Totally out of nowhere, mom comes into town to say hi with grandma and promptly opens the trunk to reveal a guitar case. She hands it to me and says "We were at the music shop the other day and saw this. Thought you might like it." I'm thinking "Oh jeez ma, you really shouldn't have." NO REALLY. She knows nothing about guitars. Anyway I pull it out of the case and here's a brand new Yamaha AES500. Actually kind of cool looking. Retro LP Junior style with metalflake silver finish and a black MOP pick guard. So I thank her and take it out to the space to check it out. It screams. Two yami humbuckers, wired for either single or double coil selected by a push pop tone knob. Playability is great and sustain is pretty full. I'm going to replace the bridge bucker with a DiMarz bucker as it was a hair on the weak side. The neck bucker sounds awesome clean or distorted. The fixed bridge shall be replaced as well.
All in all though I'm very surprised at the quality of this axe considering it's market value. I've only played a couple of Yamis and they were accoustics.
Anyone else own this guitar or have experience with them? Any mods you could tell me about?

Frickin camera cable!!!! Whats weird is mine is the only (how do i put it) warm silver finish with black MOP I've seen in my searches. Finish is fucking cool! I'll have me mate with a decent camera shoot some pics. Anyways, here's some images I dug up on the web.
