Recording Modus Operandi
I got to play a vg-88 with a roland ready strat at guitar center while in N'orlins and I just had to have one. I got real lucky on ebay and got one with a roland ready strat for only $900 buckeruse...wahoo!

Now I have this huge task of learning how to work it into the music my band does. Up till now I've been using a strat and an acoustic with a red knobbed twin and miking it through a PA. What's the best way to hook it up? Roland into the PA & Strat into the amp? Both into the PA or both into the amp?

Does anyone know any shortcuts or a decent way to adapt this into your routine to do cover tunes?

Also does anyone have any real cool patches that you've created that you'd like to share.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Man, i'd love to get my hands on one of those Roland guitar synths.
The only help I can give you is: I think the Roland should go to the PA and the Strat to the amp.

But, you might be able to help me with a question i've had about the VG88: Do you know if it can be triggered by a MIDI keyboard?
Are the sounds on it generally more guitar-based, and wouldn't be useful just as a synth module?

Good luck with it.

Thanks Mip. So far I've been using the Roland through the PA and the guitar direct into the amp and it's worked out real good. I just discovered setup where I can plug the guitar into both of the VG-88 inputs, then the VG-88 into the PA while running the guitar out directly to the amp. This gives the same sound only from the guitar you get a better option of using the toggle switch for guitar only, Roland only or a mix.

The main problem I've had so far is getting used to the different volumes in the different patches but I can get around that setting up my own patches.

The pre programmed patches are mostly different guitar(nice acoustic and 12 strg) and amp sounds plus lots of effects like wah, rev, dist, bow etc. It also has a nice synth sound, organ, a gong, bells and a pitch bender. There is 100 patches you can program yourself and it does have a midi in and out for dumping patches and for remote control.

I'm still looking for homemade patches that anyones cooked up. Hopefully I'll find the time to make some of my own soon...
