New At Editing

I recently bought a plusdeck 2c to convert my cassette tapes to digital. After paying almost as much to install this in my computer as it cost, I doscovered that I still need an editing software because it does not properly separate tracks. While I am at it, some could use to be cleaned up (clicks, etc.) Does anyone have any suggestions for an editing program? I would prefer something that is easy to use for the purposes listed above. Any assistance would be appreciated.
 
well, it does come with recording software, correct?
and do you mean separating tracks as in multi-tracking...or separating the individual songs on the casette like a CD does with tracks?

I'm not familiar with the softare, but all you need is a simple wave editor that can allow you to save portions of the recorded file.
Something like Audacity would do that...and it's free.
 
It did not come with editing software the manufacturer replied by saying "Thank you for contacting Customer Support. You can convert a tape into a big MP3 file, and then cut it by using a separate software, such as Sound Forge, Music Studio, and WavePad(http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/). That way, you can actually edit the audio file before you burn the audio cd.

Thanks for the advice. Anyone else have a suggestion?
