A frend of mine is starting up a hosting site like MP3.com and garageband. They are well connected, well funded, well designed etc. They are thinking of offering a production deal for every band that signs up... discounted rates at studios across the country--from mid level to major label studios so bands can record their music with more than an audiophile card, art tube mp and a couple of sm57s. In addition to sorting out the best studios for bands and getting much better rates, they will also help them get engineers who have worked with bands in the same genre.

Just wondering if that kind of deal would make you choose them over MP3.com or garageband.

Bet $5 an$7 a month.

:D

Theyre also offeing gig promotion, a radio show once a week, feedback from producers on songwriting and mixing and a bunch of other goodies. The production deal was my idea. So far studios Ive contacted have showed significant interest.

A production deal for every band that signed up? How are they going to handle the volume?

$100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label)

Only $19 from www.musicbizbooks.com and Kathode Ray Music!

The production deal is not all paid for. Its a discount at decent mid level studios and general guidance through the recording process. Getting the right engineer for the bands sound, etc

Sounds interesting? Almost too good to be true. That's what I thought about mp3.com

We shall see...

Not saying anything about this particular company, but this is a common scam many studios have resorted to in order to stay in business. Watch yourself.

There is a company in NJ called "Black Rose" that is famous for it. They charge people $30,000 for a "$60,000 deal." I think www.geocities.com/songshark has more info.

The book "Song Shark" by Shad O'Shea (available at Amazon) also explains variations of the deal.

Why are you spamming your book store on here????

The deal here is not a scam. This is a discount offered to bands who sign up. They can choose what theyre comfortable spending--$25/hr $35/hr $45/hr etc. So instead of paying $35 theyll pay $25 perhaps. The exact details have not been fleshed out yet. The other advantage is the studios working through this site are handpicked. There are studios that charge $35/hr which do an incredible job and there are studios which charge $55/hr which do a lousy job, etc Theres quality control at every price range.

Well, keep us posted here. As I stated, " 'It sounds almost too good to be true' " and you know what they usually say about that.
