yes, i'm a jazz purist... but, i'm inlove with stew copeland, he is my daddy! really! so... my usual jazz stuff has gone a little more reggae/the police...and.... the only reason i'm posting, is because i've changed a lot of my techniques. I recorded a 10 track demo all this year...and, it got deleted, long story. So, now, i've got some new gear and i wanted to do it differently to the way i did it the first time, which was incredibly tight, but, didn't groove.
so, i've got an aardvark 24/96, 2 rode nt1000's and other snare mics... i use a sansamp tri ac and the sans amp bass di..
all my old recordings were mic'd amp and so forth.
the drums were recorded with 3 mics... on nt1000 about 2 meters infront of the bass drum, another one off to the right, covering the ride/toms. Also about 2 meters away. A shure bg4.1 on the top snare head, whcih sucks, as i usually put it underneath. I really love the drum sound in this.. it's much better than the way i used to do it, which was by putting the overheads on either side of the imaginary line from snare to middle of bass drum.. which, was tight, but, didn't groove.
oh, vocals were first takes... i'm really not all that fussed about the vocals at the moment, i can do almost anything i want with vocals, that's easy... so...here tis...
