Here's a song a friend and I made one day jsut sittin around, If anyone would like to listen and give any feedback on what they think of it, right now there are no vocals but they are almost done. We recorded with an SM58 into my tascam dp-01 on everything (acoustics, electric) and that is all we have access to right now because my newly ordered things have not arrived. I understand its not gonna be close to high end recordings but I tried to do the best i could, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am new to this but plan on getting deeply involved in recording once I acquire the right amount of gear and KNOWLEDGE so any help would be cool. oh and I mixed everything in Cakewalk Home Studio2

Acoustic Song

anyone else want to comment on the mix or the song or both

You're going to need to push the guitar out of the way a little to fit the vocal in the mix. Up until the change at 0:33, it's very bright and dynamic, good for an intro. To 1:06, that should make for some good verses, but a few overemphasized beats could stand some attention. The energy is down just enough on recapitulation to 1:37 for a chorus. The change in the 2:00 range works well, and the interlude at 2:37 is welcome. The introduction of the electric in the coda is effective, but again will need some compression to fit a vocal on top.

Any plans for drums or bass?

Hmm I don't have an analyzer here, but maybe you raised the average level without slapping the peaks? Maybe you need lighter compression followed by a touch of limiting, because it sounds like some peaks are louder than others.

Anyway, I wouldn't compress at all before you track the vocals, wait until you hear it in the mix.

thanks I'll work on gettin the peaks down because they definitly bother the shit out of me, I'll post the song again when i have fixed everything, thanks again
