This is crazy good friend
Thank you. This has been in the works for a long time. It's very exiting to be this close to finished.

Curious to know how the engineer reacts to what he hears....share?:D
Jeff, I'm curious myself. I'm sure he's heard some great stuff as well as some real crap. I'm curious myself if he's going to think it's a total hack job. We'll see. I'll keep you posted.

Just back from mastering. What a great experience. He let us sit in on the whole session.

I actually contemplated self mastering this project with some mastering plugs/software. Let me tell you, mastering is a whole different universe, and I'm glad I didn't.

He was able to do in a matter of four hours some things that would have taken me weeks, or in most cases, I would not have been able to do at all.

The cedar program he had for removing little pops and clicks here and there alone is over $10k. In some places he played the track 1/4 speed to zero in on hard to find noises. He even played it backwards a couple of times.

Gear was amazing. Weiss and Prism DA and AD. Prism and SPL mastering EQ's, Manley, Dramstic comps, more that I can't remember, all sunk into a custom console. Watching this guy move around this thing was like watching a master piano concerto in person (at least it was for me).

The primary focus seemed to be the low end, which I can not seem to get right. I must have problems still with my room treatment and monitoring. I just can't seem to get the low end tight. I knew that when we went up there, and he zeroed right in on that, and had it squared away in short time.

For those of you contemplating mastering your own work, in a word, don't. When you work so hard for 8 innings, the ninth inning is no time to blow it. Bring in the closer.

Thanks for stopping by to take a listen. You are very kind. If that's your song on youtube, it's very good. I just can't understand what you're singing. Is that you singing. Vocals are very good.

Oh, I`m sorry! It was my first day when I posted the message about your songs and the link to youtube. At that time I didn`t know that one could follow a thread! That explains my very late reply.
You`re very kind:) No need to reciprocate hehe. My songs are very old... I call them oldy and moldy:laughings: The chorus translated into English would be... There are places out of time/Into my life and into my mind/There are places where I belong/That will come along/ There are places out of time/Into my life and into my mind/There are places you cannot touch/ It means so much.
After I moved to Japan, I stopped composing, but 4 years ago I started composing again. This is the only song I actually recorded in 4 years. Spent 500 bucks on it haha. Had I known, I would have bought an interface with that money!
But... this is the result... and it`s in English:)

Heads up America:)

That's a nice song. If you paid $500, you got off cheap. I wish I only had $500 invested in recording.

....busy torching all the all the songs and lyrics I've ever written......OK, now just some gasoline for my Les Paul......

.....OK, now that that's taken care of...
G.Z., I'm sure you know these songs are great and the performance is flawless. You are surely blessed to have such a talented son. And you are not so bad yourself, because it sounds like your son is performing just for me in my living room! It also sounds like a real nice guitar and nothing else! Nobody records an acoustic guitar sound like that - all natural and unaltered. What kinda stunt are you trying to pull here?

Breathtaking!

So, I guess you are actually looking for something to fix. Well, I think I might have heard a little distortion on Huckleberry Hound, I had ear-buds on, but I haven't heard that kind of vibration on these ear-buds before. So, get on that will ya!

While you are at it, take those 'down-loadable' mp3s off the post before other people get my idea of burning a bunch of copies and selling them to my friends! ;)

Perhaps you should have warned us that we might have the urge to quit music and take up knitting after hearing these tracks!

:)

I've only listened to the first few so far and they are really listenable dude.

I like the panning of some of the guitar lines in the first song although I am not sold on the drums. I feel like they should be stronger or not there at all. They seem a bit tentative if that makes sense?

I really like the vocals - beautifukl voice man.

It's not a style I would usually listen to much but it is definitely enjoyable.

I don't like the 'We be working on a project' vocal line in '4'. In fact There are a couple of harmonies and melodies on that track that I'm not in to compared to the tracks before it. (It may grow on me in time) Please don't take these comments negatively. music is subjective and of course these are only my current opinions.

My overall opinion is VERY positive. ot just the songs and performance but also the recording/mixing job you have done.

It would be great of you could post one of the mastered songs (or part of it) so we can all have a comparison. Keeping in mind these are MP3s of course!!

Brad, Thanks for the kind words. You really made me laugh, more than once. Forget knitting. Music is more fun.

We did some tweaking before taking to mastering, and you are correct about the drums in Head Up. They were way too quiet. We turned 'em way up in the mix sent for mastering. Sounds way better. The CD's will be back from printing at the end of the month. I'll do better than posting one song, I'll post a link where you can buy the CD and support a starving young kid. Thanks for taking time to listen and post some good feedback.
