Actually it was an idea of badassmak, but let's make this a thread in which you strongly disrecommend certain gear because of any discomfort.

People planning to buy certain stuff can first check if it's in this list and why. This will avoid a lot of $$$-wasting, I guess..

This thread is actually not meant for cases that are really 'taste-sensitive', but the ones that are really crap because of clear reasons, to get some objective points of view of the products instead of all the commercial information everywhere on the web.

Let's start with the Guillemot Isis card:https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=74694

And let's put badassmak's ULH speakers here too:

Never buy a Behringer Ultramizer. With multi-band compression, it supposed to work as a el-cheapo mastering machine (although they don't use that word). Unfortunately that compressor is so crappy, that no matter what settings you have, it will sound better without it.

Pieces of shit I regret buying:

Biamp LG2 Gate/Limiter - useless as tits on a bull
Behringer Virtualizer - returned it within 48 hours
Rolls HA43 headphone amp - still have it, but its junk

I regret buying the following:

Behringer Ultramizer.....utter crap!
Digitech quad...........really stupid mistake
Joe Meek VC1.......absolute trash
ART Tube pre-amp.......so embarasing,i wasn't going to mention it

Everyday i repeat to myself: 'NEVER AGAIN....NEVER AGAIN'.

Now I don't know about that. I've got one (dual mp) and use it all the time. Other than vocals, it beats out my VMP-2 on just about everything, and is particularly nice on bass direct and crunchy amp tones. It beats the shit out of the 8 pres in my workstation, and is probably one of the best purchases I've ever made.

I have four of them, and I like them a lot. They are the best sounding of all the inexpensive headphone amps I've tried. A major studio in my area once borrowed a couple from me, and later remarked they wondered why they spent a lot of money on headphone amps when my rolls sounded just as good.

the drawbacks? they are a little flimsy, and won't last forever. but at that price i consider them consumables.

I don't know how good the quality control is, so maybe like the MC012 or the Behringer 8000 some people just end up with a bad one.

My nominations:

Alesis X2 mixer
Alesis 3630
AKG C3000
AKG C1000
Oktava 219

Could be, because I've heard other praise for them, too. All I know is that mine didn't work upon arrival. After taking it apart and blowing out all the metal shavings, it worked, but to this day I have to tinker with the main input jack to keep it coming through both sides of the cans.

I forgot another one...

Alesis Studio 24 mixer - never liked the feel of it, let alone the sound.

Digitech RP-20 - Total crap. I bought one, and the sound and performance was so lousy that i took it back, thinking that it was a fluke. The next one was just as bad. Never liked Digitech since...

in theory, this is a great thread idea....however, it is proving very little as quite a few products that some are categorizing as worthless shit is actually quite useful gear......

ANY BEHRINGER MIXER !!!!

Also.............any Phillips C/D recorder!

In addition, other products you should never buy..................

George Foreman grills, Gillette electric shavers,Westinghouse washing machines, Ericsson cell phones, Sansui coffee machines,
RightGuard Sport deodorant, Tylenol, Gortons frozen fish sticks,
any garment with the "NY YANKEES" on it, any recordings made by Brittany,Christine,Macy Gray,Tiny Tim,John Tesh & Milli Vanilli,
Red Devil hot sauce and finally, canned green-peas from the Jolly Green Giant !!!!!

All these products suck BIG TIME!!!

I love my George Foreman grill.....

Thats it Q........you, sir, are on my IGNORE LIST...... :D ;) :p  :)

I would think it's almost safe to say that anything with a low price point is not going to be up to snuff once you've heard a better unit.

The only thing I can think of would be the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone distortion pedal. For a live rig it soars, but for recording it's a real pain in the ass! Noisy as hell and not a usable sound in it. Everything is like ultra-fuzz to the 9th power. Give me overdriven 6L6's anyday!

LMAO

right on F_cksia,

I still see the ISIS on sale at the music store, cept its for even more that xmas is over. As for those loudspeakers, they're even cheaper now, but still on the shelf.

I think now that my new DAW is functioning nicely, I am starting to hear my Behriner mixer :D...(its not an instrument so I shouldn't be hearing it). One thing is for sure, I probably wouldn't be as involved to the point I am here if it wasn't for some Behringer stuff. Simply because of the price...

Gee I need a headphone amp, and the ones I were looking at today were called Rolls...:)

I happen to think this is a great thread idea :D , just so long as those who know their gear can step in to point out the goodness and validity of said equipment the more inexperienced home recorders are not aware of.

Having said all of this I think one of the best ways to avoid crappy gear is to do a search. Either here or on the net. I'm pretty sure that when I saw the ISIS the first time around, I found enough user opinions on the net to warrant complete avoidance!

anybody mention Soundblaster in this thread yet ?:D ...those and Bostich roofing nailers...Ford's...no-name brand hi-hat stand for 20$ american, it comes busted in the box for the most part...solar cymbals...(these are just my opinions, do a search and you may find opinions that differ!)
:D

I agree! Bostich makes the most unreliable nailers ever! Porter Cables are the way to go.

Crate is evil. Not a single solder joint I have ever seen in one of them (and you have to open all crate products to resolder) has ever been solid. Four different friends have brought me four different Crate products now with the same complain.... channels or contacts failing.

Bellari MP105 tooob mic pre-what more needs to be said!

Chris

P.S. My Behringer mixer has been downgraded to a headphone
amp BTW.

ahh well I always went with Hitachi, those people make everything from great big fricking power shovels to vibraters, and they're damn good at it too...I always found bostich great for going off at the wrong time (cheap safety)...i.e. when its against your leg.

So I should buy a Mackie mixer, and use my Behringer for a headphone amp?...man talk about costly solutions :D

I'll bite...*any* peavey amp.

Hey, I don't want to hear it...I said *any* peavey amp and I meant it :)

Slackmaster 2000

Purchased an Alesis Studio 32. 3 months after the warranty expired, so did the mixer. Turned it on one day ... ALL the lights came on & stayed on .......... smoke came out of it. We all know that electronic equipment operates on smoke. It's just hidden inside the wiring & once it comes out .... no more worky. Repair shop said it would be about $400.00 bucks to fix it. Heck, that was half of what it cost to buy it! I've bought lotsa stuff since then, but not from Alesis!
