Great song to cover. What's the sustainer thing you have on that guitar? The tone's completely different to the original (Blackie and a Black Face I think?) But it's a pretty cool saturated sound.

I'd bring the arpeggiated guitar up. Sort out the vox a bit...the timing is off in the first few parts, and I like when the lead/fuzz guitar backs off, it gives the whole thing more room.

I have no clue what sustainer I have on the guitar. I didn't know what a sustainer is lol. I know the lead guitar sounds alot different than the original. . . I don't know if you've ever heard the DMB/Gov't Mule/Built to Spll versions, but they all have sort of a heavier guitar I think. Anyways, my amp is just crappy, and those was the only settings I could get to make it sound the best (which still isn't very good). I'd kill for a Marshall lol.

Arpeggiated = the non solo guitar? lol

The timing of the vocals, or the timing of the song?

(I like when the lead backs off too, I hate it's tone ;) ) lol

I wouldn't say the lead tone is BAD....it seems quite scooped, and sutains/rings out for ages. Yeah arpeggiated is the picked notes.

For timing, just make sure your vox (particularly in the first verse) comes in with conviction.

The performance is pretty good, but that main lead guitar tone is killing me. Its shrill and buzzy. The vocals sound great. The drums still sound pretty roomy, but it gives this song a cool bar-band live feel. The overall mix levels sound good. Its just that ear killing guitar tone that doesn't work for me. :o

Yeah, I think I'm stuck with that "live" feel until I can get some more microphones for my drums.

I'm still trying to work stuff out with my amp. . . I need settings that will make the solo sound powerful, but still sound good for the softer parts. On my list of things to buy. . .

I'm gonna record some new vocals tonight, and try some more lead guitar tracks. I really like how everything sounds during the verse when the lead guitar cuts out, i've just gotta figure out how to make the lead not drown everything out.

What amp and guitar are you using? Are you using proper gain staging?

true. lead guitar tone is buzzy and the notes seem to be neverending - sustaining for quite sometime.

this song is one of my favorite - couple of weeks back listened to the acoustic version on youtube - got hooked on to it again.

overall pretty good job done!

cheers

I guess. . . Iduno I'd really like a Marshall. Could I get a Marshall pedal and get the same sound do you think?

You could take a look at a Marshall Jackhammer, it's a nice little box but isn't as rugged as a Boss.

The rework is 1000 times better - there's some real guitar in the lead tone - it does fizz a few times but mostly sounds llike a guitar. the 1st version sounded like a high pass filter had been used & wiped out everything below 3khz.
The live sound is fine & gives an essence of the original - the the vocals do need work maybe some doubling and pulling back.
The mix could use some reverb or a sonic maximiser or somethoing to pull every together.
