need to know what to buy

my names nolan and i want to build a small home studio in one of the empty rooms in my house and was wandering what all i need to buy, ive been considering 8-12 channel mixers like the korg d 888 and a few boss models... im tryin to keep it simple and affordable. id appreciate some input

i'd buy

a good DAW or SIAB. i myself own both. roland makes reallys good SIAB's. then all you need is a decent mic or two, or three. some cables and the instruments. i export all the tracks from my boss br1200 into protools and do all the eq'ing and compression and mixing there. works for me and i get pretty decent quality.

What is it that you want to do?? Why would you need an 8 - 12 channel mixer?? Will you be tracking that many inputs at once??

Do you plan to be a one man band? Have a few friends over? record your band or other local bands? A whole orchestra??

What is the end result you expect?? CD's? Mp3's on the internet? Christmas gifts for the family? How good do you want it to sound?? Do you want to sell your tunes or just to record songs you're working on with a band? Artist demos?? Song demos?

What's your budget?? What equipment do you have already? What's the environment? Can you make noise or do you need to isolate sound?

Lots of questions... no one can give you any recommendations without knowing what you want to do.
