Need suggestions on Direct recording pedal set up.

Hi, I'm abit new to the whole Direct recording field, and was seeking some suggestions on my set up, or am simply wondering if there is something I am missing that I should consider.

Here is my set up:

POD > Sparkle Drive > Octave Pedal > Buzz Box > Digital Delay > Digitech RP 100 > 1/2 Inputs of Delta 44.

I am kind of vague on the whole preamp issue, and I use Cool Edit Pro for my recording and mixing capabilites. I assume the POD or even the effects unit acts as a preamp on its own, but am unaware if it serves some other signifcant function.

Cna anyone clarify this for me. Your help would be appreciated.
 
I'd make the POD the last device in the effects chain. Is it the POD Pro? I know that has line level outs (Balanced & Unbalanced), and works very nicely as a DI. I love mine!!

I'm not sure about the rest of the pedals but I think they are instrument level and really need some sort of preamp before they hit the sound card (just the last effect in the chain). You could probably get by a lot cheaper with a Direct In box (DI) rather than a preamp. You don't need to warm up the signal (POD etc will do that for you), you just want to bump it up to line level (and preferrably balanced).

the pod or other pedals denitely act as a preamp so you dont need one....with all that crap i hope you have noise reduction.....

I know my POD PRO has line outs and so doesn't need a preamp, but I thought all the other other pedals Mecury mentioned left the signal at instrument level (well... maybe not the Digitech). Wouldn't you want to punch that up?
