need soundcard for Yamaha MG 12/4 mixer

what advice could you give me about what type of soundcard to get.

The M-audio Delta44 would fit the mixers ins and outs nicely. However, If you only look to record yourself, then a humble(?) audiophile(m-audio again) would do.
 
Agreed. I run the Delta 44 from an MG12/4 and it works well
 
ok, but....

for now, I have a sblive sound card, and am running rca out of the mixer into the line in input...

I tried recording guitar with the mic.

what I notice is that the quality is no different from when I run a 1/4" to 1/8" from my guitar into the line in cpu input.

is that cause of the sound card?

why is the quality no different?
