shit, who am I kidding. there is no such thing as a non-gearhead engineer. I just meant the practical as opposed to thoeretical engineer. you know, the guys who have to actually SET UP a balanced system, as opposed to the guys who say "balanced is better, right?"...

thanks!

so much to read so little time (and so little money, but that's off the subject;))
i'll check 'm out.
i'm discovering that there's a lot of Bulls***t going around. like the "pro +4 and consumer -10db"
always thought " well, i'd better get a unit with the pro option".

man am i a dumb follower or what? well, not any more...
(thanks to prorec.com in this case)

Im sorry if im leading false info. Tell me, im here to learn also. Is there a big advantage with recording at 48K 24Bit then dithering down?? Im still a begginer myself and i would really like to know.

Also, about the balanced issues. Ive found balanced to sound better. And i had this same questions about them before so i asked my local profession sound engineer if what he thought about them. Since hes gone to a very good audio school i trusted his opinion alot. He told me to definately use the balanced lines.

Please help me clear this stuff up.

Also, reading back on my post. I didnt necessarily "recommend" recording at 44.1K and 16bit. i just reminded him that he didnt have to record at 24bit.

Nope...... U have to record at 24...... because when U try to click on the option to record 16 bit with a 24 bit soundcard, a message box will appear and say "WTF are U doing???" and then will switch U back to 24 bit..... heheh but 24 bit is worth it. 96khz... I don't know, I'm happy with 48khz and 24 bit.

P.S. Too bad GadgetLabs went outta business...... I have there Wave 424, and I love it (4 ins, 4 outs).

i wasn't trying to put you down, but i just had done a search on the topic and came upon a (i believe 3 pages long thread), were , among others, sonusman was really getting pissed off about people recommending 16 bit recording. And read a Bob Katz column were he also recommended the 24/96 option. so i guess it's a rule then.

Alhtough it's kinda logical, don't you think?

Ah well, hope i haven't offended anyone...;)
