need something to control monitor volume

I have dynaudio bm5a's and they don't have a volume control on them, so I end up using the master fader in Cubase to control volume. Can anyone reccommend some sort of 2 channel mixer or something small and decent to control my monitor volume so I can keep the master fader at 0? Thakes, Jake.
 
I use the Presonus HP4 headphone amp. It has monitor in/out with a passive attenuator, and can run up to 4 sets of headphones. I think Rolls and SMProAudio make similar passive monitor/headphone devices.

I'm using a firepod and I noticed that some places are giving that away for free now when you purchase one. The pitfalls of early adoption. :(

Alternatively, NHT makes the PVC (Passive Volume Control) and A-Designs makes the ATTY Passive Level Control. I've got a couple PVCs for my monitors and they work just swell. $99 new.
 
i built my own. it's just a big knob with a mute switch. it's a dirt simple, passive circuit.

500k dual gang audio taper pot (good quality is important, like alps)
1 dpst switch
4 1/4" jacks
knob
suitable enclosure

it's very important to get a good quality pot for this. you need to spend at least $20 on this pot, not $5. cheap pots don't track evenly, so at lower volumes (higher impedence) the volume on each channel might be audibly different.

honestly, unless you've got some of these parts laying around, buying the presonus jobby will only be like $20 more.
 
Keep in mind that whatever you put in front of it will to some minor extent at least change the way your monitors sound. This could be a good change, could be a bad change. Just keep that in mind before you stick a cheap headphone amp in front of them:) I would be looking at the NHT or the A-Designs like suggested above;)
